So i brought Coco to the vet the yesterday to be checked to see why her fur is falling out, and acouple of fleas she had. The vet determined that maybe the fleas may be the cause of exsessive itching so she perscibed Revolution Kitten dose.

It didnt even take that 1/2 hour and it cost $166!!!! but $50 of that was the revolution…. still 116, just to tell me what i pretty much new!

I know she came from the petstore with fleas because i have seen them in the store! I think they should pay for it, because they didnt even tell me about any possible flea treatments or anything!?

Yeah, that’s a pretty typical pet visit cost for me.

I don’t think you are going to be able to get the pet store to pay for it – fleas can be a problem even if you get a pet from a rescue or anywhere else. That’s why anytime you bring a new animal into the home you should have a complete check up from the vet to treat for anything.

That is expensive for my area, but prices vary so much by where you live. My vet would have only charged me $30 to look at her, then whatever the medicine costs – but my vet is really cheap (though good) and I live in farm country.

I doubt the pet store would pay, they usually have something about what they will and will not take responsibility for in their rules, but you could call and let them know your bun had fleas from them so they can at least treat their other animals (hopefully).

Sounds about right to me. Cost of seeing the pet, plus the meds.

and there was probably a fee for diagnosing the fleas. They will usually take a sample and have a tech look at it under the microscope and figure out if it is fleas and what species. At my clinic that fee is about $20 and that includes the tech time, all the supplies that go into making up a slide, and then a portion of it goes to paying for the ridiculously expensive microscopes.

Did they give you a receipt at least to let you know what you are charged for?

That does seem a little high. When I kamdyn was diagnosed with fur mites the vet perscribed ivermetcim and the visit and the medicine was $56 dollars $42 for the visit and $14 for the medicine and that $14 was for all 4 shots. It probably depends to on the area that you live in to I am not sure if that makes a different!

Ya i just looked at the recipet it was 45 for visit, 50 for medicine, 14 for waste desposale ( idk what they disposed of she didnt make a mess), and 64 for a fur sample test. i guess the test was what i was unexpecting, i think it will tell us if her bald spot is coming from mites, ringworm, or just itching because of the few fleas she has.

waste disposal isn’t your bunny’s waste, it’s proper disposal of used meds/syringes/etc.

That seems a bit excessive. Are there any other rabbit vets in your area?

It really depends on location – around here it’s about $100 just to see the vet, not including any tests or meds. Each test is easily over $100. It really varies by the cost of living in your area.

My vet charges me about $30.00 for an exotic office visit and then everything done gets added on. But for a re-check the price is only half of that.

$30 is pretty darn reasonable. I wish my vets charged that. My vet is now charging $56 for a check-up which I think is alot but I trust her and her staff with my rabbits – they get good care when I drop them off – I guess they should for what she charges :~)

That’s about on par. It would’t hurt to call the petstore to see if they’ll at least treat the animals they have

OI 30 would be nice! I pay 75 and then it’s 50 something for follow up in regards to the same issue. My vet doesn’t charge us for exams if we do other things-say shots, xrays etc. Which is very kind, and I know she doesn’t do that for everyone and it’s not clinic practice. So PHEW on that account!

If it makes you feel any better I had a shocking and unexpected almost 700$ vet bill once. I was picking my jaw off the floor. It was a spay and an x-ray; I know better what to expect and I know better to ask about EVERYTHING first. But yikes I just about dropped-was not prepared for that one!

Well that makes sense that your vet visits are much more, K&K. It costs way more to live out west than it does here.
