         Hey guys

        Anyone have this problem?

I have always used the plastic water bottles for my small animals. I was tired of replacing them every year so I bought one of the Living World glass ones. It gets crappy stuff on it all the time now. I have poured boiling water on it, rinsed it out with rubbing alcohol, tried a capful of bleach, vinegar, EVERYTHING, the nasty smell still comes back. I never had this problem with plastic. Do you guys have any solutions???

        Thankss

        Missy (and Bunny)

Use crocks or dishes I use this-

So they don’t knock it over.

Yeah, Nava has a plastic bottle and a water dish. She prefers the water dish anyways.

When I used the water bottles I found that the ring around where the metal part connects to the plastic would rust and get kinda gunky. Once I switched over to a ceramic dish I didn’t have any problems

I suggest the bowls as well. All my buns prefer them to the bottles. They get better hydration I have found, with using bowls versus bottles.

I’m just going to echo what everyone else has said, ceramic water bowls are cleaner and rabbits drink easier out of them. Anything plastic will get bacteria stuck in them no matter how hard you clean them (because it’s absorbed in them).

Mine have both the cabbage and the carrot for water dishes

You can buy a bottle brush that can clean the inside of the plastic part and then the little brush cleans the mouth piece.

                        Hope this helped!

I would use a bottle brush to scrub it well inside. But I prefer a ceramic crock for water

IF you are going to use water bottles, you must dump them rinse them and fill them daily. They will grow stuff because water is sitting in them. So dump and rinse every day.
Also at this point-you don’t know what that stuff is so I’d throw them out and buy new ones. Or switch to dishes -bunnies prefer them.

in the beginning I just didn’t like the water bottle, it seemed so un-natural, so I got one of those cat self watering containers and keep it pushed up in the corner and it is easy to clean and seldom gets pooped in or spilled. usually I keep it turned 90% clockwise and that puts the bowl in the corner.  These rabbits drink a lot of water, if I didn’t use something like this I would have to check their water several times a day.

Lazee’s water containers sound great, but right now I’m really happy about a glass bowl I got from the dollar store. It never spills. I had troubles with the water bottle too, because they rusted and also get clogged.. My bunnies have a hard time drinking out of it and aren’t very enthusiastic about water back then. Now when i get a glass bowl, they drink it every time I refill the water. The rustless water sippy thing actually rusted, so I just abandoned it outside =)

Thats what I use too Lazee. The buns were going through water faster I could refill it so I bought really nice anti-microbal ones with filters for the girls
