So I have only had my baby rabbit for about a month now and while feeding her today I saw a flea on her head! But It disappeared before I got it! I don’t have any other animals and my house is very clean… Where did it come from???! What should I do? I want to prevent it as much as possible … She has also been scratching often that’s why I think it’s not just one ! Help thanks!

Well, first you will want to call your vet, get some flea stuff for her. I say call your vet, because dosing is different for bunnies than cats or dogs. Ask for advantage or revolution, NOT Frontline. Frontline = fatal for bunnies.

Then, you will need to treat you carpets and such, and you will likely need to vacuum often, with a flea collar in the bag, for a couple months so you can get all the fleas. Fun times ahead for you…

Ok, well bring her to the vet. They can probably give her treatment for fleas. Or you could by cream.. but I would trust the vet waaay better 🙂 Hope this helps!!

Haviing just gone through this, I can tell you it’s going to be a battle! Fleas rank right up there with bed bugs; they are hard to get rid of, but not impossible. Determination and viligence is key to getting rid of them. You will need to take your bunny to the vet and get either Revolution or Advantage (NEVER FRONTLINE)! Then you will need to clean EVERYTHING where your bunny has been (rugs, bedding, etc.), then vaccumm like you’ve never vaccuumed before! Believe it or not, fleas are attracted to the vibration of your vaccuum cleaner so keep vaccuuming! Fleas have a 3 stage life cycle. You will need to break the flea cycle to get rid of them.  I brought fleas in my house from a shelter. Good luck!

OH ohhh.   My neighbors downstairs saw fleas too.   That doggone stray cat.    I put plant water pots in the 2 chairs we have outside to keep the cat out of our furniture so we dont’ have fleas when we sit there.  N hopefully Cotton won’t either.

The vet recommends I keep him on revolution because I take him outside so much.  He doesn’t have fleas and never did.

I am more worried about these ants.   They are coming in thru the window screen.  sometimes 5 a nite.   Today I got some ant bait.  Those big bull ants 2 of them were on me few minutes ago.    Guess they are trying to get me back for trying to kill them with the new ant bait I got today.

Am more worried about the ants cuz I think Cotton is allergic.   He got bit long tie ago and his face swole up.

Fleas are a big pain.   And no the foggers do not work.

Definitely call the vet. Do not get flea repellant on your own, there are only certain kinds that are safe to use on bunnies. Revolution is one of them.

So i went to the vet and they gave me kitten Revolution, hopefully this will help, at the moment there are not to many fleas. I put the revolution of yesterday and am going to vaccum her room everynight when i get home. Every hour or so i check her to see if i can see any fleas and if i do i smush then with tweezers! I HATE THEM! So hopefully this will help.

                      Any other flea exterminating tips???

                      THanks

You can try making a flea trap, using a lamp and a pan of soapy water, among other methods. This not only will hopefully kill some fleas, but it is also a way to monitor how many you have.
