….I find this out, of course, after I buy a bunch of second cut timothy hay (and by a bunch, I mean a 45 lb box).  Oh, they nibble on the second cut, but give them coarse, thick stemmed first cut hay and they’re all over it.

So now I have to buy them more first cut hay, and figure out to which charity/shelter to donate the second cut timothy hay.

Any bunnies out there prefer first cut hay to second or third cut hay?

yes and no- mine seem to enjoy variety or maybe they are just trying to confuse me by not having a consistent favorite. LOL

Wish mine liked the variety.  I now have about 45 lbs of second cut hay–gorgeous stuff, that they’re only so-so, lukewarm about eating.

Mine prefers orchard & meadow ( is botanical the same? He loves that too ) over timothy, but he prefers 1st cut timothy but will eat 2nd cut, he’s really not picky though, he will eat whatever I offer him though, eventually, when he eats his favorite bits.

Mmm, Powder would eat any hay I gave him, to be honest. He also eats anything green I give him. Actually, come to think of it… the only thing he is picky about is pellets. Stickers only eats oxbow orchard, not sure what cut they use. But it isn’t up to us to question our masters/mistresses in their tastes.

Wish mine were less picky about their hay.  I have 45 lbs of the most gorgeous hay I’ve ever seen… and they like the coarse first cut hay.

I laughed out loud (literally) at your last line… it’s too true!

Oh no! Little boogers 1st cut has a ton of fiber though, so its not a bad thing that they like it

Here I was, thinking I’d “spoil” them with some beautiful second cut hay (and it really is gorgeous).  This is like kids preferring veggies to ice cream… So, now i have to go buy more first cut hay…. Sigh…
