I’m getting a cali/flemish rabbit pretty soon. Does anyone know how big they get?  I know the purebred giant flemish can get as big as a mid size dog

Depending on what else is mixed with the parents, anywhere from 10-18lbs is a good guess. My full Flemmie will be about 18lbs. I LOVE my girl, but really think about it before you get a large breed. They can’t live in a cage, they need a couple xpens to (ideally ) a full house of space, much like a dog. They eat a TON, easily 3 times what a reg bun eats, and until they are 8months ish are supposed to be free fed, which so far I’m going through about 5lbs every 3 weeks about. Maybe 2 weeks. Its alot. Add in hay, which I’m now looking to buy by the Bale-full because she mows it down like no tomorrow, and salads, and they can be quite an expensive bun. Now Lady is also only 15 weeks (and 5lbs!) so I don’t know if it evens out over a while, or it just keeps getting worse

S&L’sHuman gave some great advice – I think 10lbs is probably the minimum and you can expect up to 15 or more pounds.

You’re going in prepared with advice, so you know what to expect. I’ve always heard that the large bunnies have the sweetest temperaments, so what you spend in growing him to full size is made up for in behavior and excellent companionship. All breeds have some drawbacks to them, so be sure you have a place to store all that food and room to roam. Then get a good camera because we want to see pictures!
