I can't believe it but I just know his left ear is infected again. It has that yucky smell which is the tell tale sign. It's been less than a month since his last infection. I'm going to make an appointment to get a culture done. The last 2 times we did a culture we got no helpful results so fingers crossed! This is getting ridiculous.

I'm also very worried because his weight has dropped. I'm usually in the habit of weighing all my three every month. The last weight I have recorded was in September and he was 5lb, 1 oz. I weighed him a few nights ago and he's down to 4lbs, 14 oz. So he lost 3 oz in only 2 months. My scale is pretty accurate. I thought he felt a little lighter lately. And he seems to be less active during run time as well but he does go through phases of "hyper" and "lazy". He's still eating and pooping normally.

Going to call the vet today to make an appointment. I'm very upset to have to go to the vet because we just had bloodwork done on our senior cat, Mystee, on Thursday, which wasn't cheap, and it turns out she has hyperthyroidism too. We have 2 hyperthyroid cats now. These vet bills are just getting much too frequent.

You must be so frustrated. Especially when the furbabies have things happen at same time!

Have you ever treated his ears with ivermectin or selamectin (revolution)?

I wonder if an xray might help see whats going on, or show if it's something to do with the bone structure?

I'm sorry I can't remember well but did he have to have molar spurs trimmed one time?  If he's had some molar trouble, worth checking again. Might be some of the reason for weight loss and his being less spunky.

I'm sorry they're all feeling poorly at the same time.
Sometimes a reoccurrence a month later means that meds weren't prescribed for a long enough time to kill off the source. Maybe he just needs another treatment for a longer period.

Thanks everyone. Right now I'm very worried about his weight drop. I knew he felt lighter but now that I know he's lost 3 oz I notice it much more. He feels way too bony to me. He just seems a bit off too. Not as boisterous and happy as usual. I can't wait to get him checked out at the vet on Tuesday afternoon.

I was planning on moving the boys in together in a temporary x-pen set-up on Monday but I think I will wait until he's back to normal. My boys seems content spending a few hours together and then going back to their separate houses. They are neighbors anyways. I just want to make sure they are both 100 % before I try cementing things.

We're off to the vet later this afternoon. I hate when the vet apts are during his nap time. I feel so awful taking him out of his warm bed, all sound asleep, and sticking him in a cold car. I should tell them I insist on my appointments not interfering with bunny nap time.

I'd be in trouble if I did that, as all mine seem to nap at different times... lol.

We sent away the culture. It has to go to the veterinary university in PEI so it will take about a week. As for the weight, she couldn't see any reason as to why it's happening. His teeth seem okay to her but if he keeps losing we will have to look at doing a head x-ray. Hope it doesn't come to that. She said just monitor his weight very carefully. It may even be because of these ear infections.

I'm getting very frustrated. Still no word about the culture. I called the vet Friday and they still haven't heard. My vet put a call in to the lab. I paid the money for the culture, get on the flippin ball already! It usually doesn't take this long.

It's driving me nuts. I know his ear is infected but I have to wait for the results to treat it. Doing nothing is upsetting. I flushed it out a few days ago, it was just full of this awful smelling stuff.

Finally got some news from the vet. They've identified the bacteria. I didn't even think to ask the name of it while I was on the phone with the vet but I will next time I see her. It's a bacteria resistant to 4 popular antibiotics so we have to try a new one. An oral med, 1x a day. I hate giving new oral meds, I worry about him getting upset by them. Vet said if he starts having any signs of GI upset to call her right away. We're starting his 10 day meds this morning and he has to go back for a re-check after that. The bottle doesn't say what the meds are. I need to ask that too.

Continued healing vibes needed please. I want a nice healthy Bindi Loo for Christmas!!!

I'm never going to get my boys bonded. I had everything all set up to do the "moving in together neutral space" for Wednesday but now I'm not sure if I should do it now or wait since I'm worried the meds will upset Bindi's system and I don't want to add any stress.

More vibes to Bindi. Let us know the meds and bacteria when you find out.

Ask your vet if she can get some Proviable RB which is the probiotic specially formulated for rabbits.

Well, there is no proof that it really works but many people use and swear by probiotics when giving rabbits an antibiotic. It certainly cannot hurt

If she doesn't have access to Proviable RB she probably has Benebac which is also good.

Now that we know what the bacteria is we have to figure out how to stop it from recurring!

Was just at the vet with my cat Mystee last night. Her thyroid is at a good level with the meds but she needs her teeth done. She's drooling super bad and the vet suspects cavities. My vet is so wonderful, she says "Mystee is very uncomftorable so you should get it done asap but I know it's hard to come up with that much money right before Christmas so we'll book it for next Tuesday and I'll bill you after Christmas".  She really deserves those gourmet chocolates I bought her for Christmas!

So far so good with Bindi's meds. They haven't bothered him. He goes in for his re-check on Friday. **fingers crossed**

Poor Mystee. I had her all ready to go in this morning and then I remembered....cats need to fast prior to surgery!!! I'm so used to bunnies getting procedures done I totally forgot. It's been over 5 years since I've gone through a cat surgery. I wish they would have reminded me! Now she has to wait until the 22nd which I'm upset about because she's just so slobbery and miserable.
