So me and Frankie Flash will be taking a trip home (about an hour drive) to my parents. We’ve made this drive several times before but I usually let him ride in the back of my SUV in his cage so he wasn’t seperated from food or water and he’s comfortable in his “zone”.

Well, here in MI our weather is quite cold and I think tomorrow I’ll probably need to keep him in his pet carrier (pink- oops!) and I have already laid newspaper and his towel down over the bottom (its grated) to protect his paws but for an hour long trip, should I include food and water?

Any other advice when traveling with a bun would be appreciated too. My guy is only about 4 months old so almost everything I do different is scary.

I don’t think you need to for an hour. I might put in a handful of hay and that would be fine.

ok thank you. I was thinking about that. he might get used to traveling if he’s with us during it too.

              He’s very cute!

For just an hour trip, I would just stick him in his carrier and not worry about it. Even for longer trips (like 5+ hours), bunnies don’t tend to eat or drink so I’ll throw in a couple lettuce leaves and some hay, but they don’t bother with it.

The more you take the trip the better he’ll be about traveling, so it’s good that you’re getting him used to it now!

I’ve taken mine on 3 hrs rides, usually he refuses to eat and definitely won’t drink but sometimes if we stop he will eat wet vegetables.

Mine are weird buns – every time I take them to the vet they devour the hay in their carrier and don’t leave any for the ride home. lol So put a little hay in there in case they want to nibble and you should be fine.

Well thank you everyone! It’s nice to chat to fellow rabbit owners and get real advice. I’m new to this site (my welcome post won’t work) and I can’t stop reading haha

I don’t give my guy food or water for my drives home (3.5 hours), I think he will be fine! Just be sure to put something down that he can grip – the first time I didn’t and Riley slid around the carrier
