I flipped Mocha over on his back today and saw a bit mat on his tail along with a lot of smaller ones. I gently pulled them off and I noticed one on his foot! It was about the size of a dime and very compacted. I pulled it off and saw another one a different foot and was about to pull that one off too when I thought that it might not be a good idea. I know rabbits are supposed to have thick fur on there feed to avoid sore hocks but are they supposed to be matted? How should I avoid the matting on the tail, butt, feet, ect. ?

Sorry for all the questions lately.

No, they shouldn’t be matted. I pull off the ones on my rabbits as well. Some get these mats and some don’t for some reason. I don’t think you can avoid it – it seems like they mat in places that are more difficult to groom.

Ok, Thanks. Do you pull them off or cut them?

Mine had a little matted looking fuzz ball on his foot the other day, I just waited till he flopped down then pulled it off, it came off easy, it wasn’t even attached anymore really, I just think he couldn’t reach it himself.

Bindi gets super matted feet, on the bottom and sides as well as his bum area. He gets mad when I try to pull them and scissors are too dangerous. I went to Wal-Mart and bought a dog trimmer (Wahl brand, $9.99). It’s great for trimming those mats off and for Bindi when he sometimes gets little poos stuck in his fur. A great investment for mat-prone or long-haired bunnies.
