I have a male bunny, a mini lop called chomp anyway about a month ago he was neutered and he definately a boy, (i even watched his surgery!) but for some reason he has started pulling fur in one of his hay boxes? He hasn’t been actually builing a next with hay, like running round crazily with it in his mouth he has only been diggin in it and made like a “hay borrow cirlce” thing? haha, sorry it’s hard to explain! but he’s pulling fur also? and he his fur around his chest is very loose to. I was talking to a friend who said he could be a hermaphrodite?? but i don’t know because he has mated before (being an ex-breeder that was unwanted)..

Does anyone know what may be going on? Any help is great! THANKS

He could still be hormonal too. I’m sure there are hermaphrodite rabbits out there but I would think the vet would have discovered this during the neutering.

I did have a neutered male rabbit who would on occasion walk around with hay in his mouth as well as you describe and I always chalked it up to stress. As he aged, he stopped this behavior.

The pulling fur though, he never did.

Is he a single rabbit (not bonded)?

Also I’ve heard that rabbits who have adrenal tumors can behave in this way as well…

Yeah i think i am going to have to blame it on hormones, strange though.

He is a single rabbit, but will hopefully be getting a friend soon

            Oh.. doesn’t sound good..?

                  Welcome Shannel : )

I suppose it’s possible he’s pulling from this area if it’s irritated. Perhaps your vet can check for fur mite of fungal growth there.

You mention he’s had problems with his teeth. Has he been drooling much because of teeth troubles?

p.s. Feel free to post pictures of your Chomp.   I spy a gorgeous looking bunny in your little avatar pic.

(What i mean by 5 littles is i had an accidental litter, chomp had been neutered and 2 weeks later go to colah [female, not speyed YET] and i didn’t know he could still breed, but took him away when i saw what was going on, and her i am with 5 beautiful bunnies.. :\ )
