Simon and Olive went to his vet check this morning.  Everything looks pretty good, although he does have a slight angulation of his front teeth and some funny wear on his back teeth–not maloclusion but something to keep an eye on.  The vet wasn’t overly concerned as long as he’s eating and drinking ok without spilling food or drooling (which he’s not) and we also have to keep an eye on his weight.  Simon also has a little heart murmur but again, the vet didn’t think that was much of a problem; could be later on, when he’s older if it persists, but he said young bunnies sometimes have them (like humans, I guess) and they go away after awhile.  If it doesn’t and gets worse, however, it could predispose him to enlargement of the heart and clot throwing, so I have to watch him for signs of coughing or fatigue (none of those have popped up).

In bonding news–they took SImon out of the carrier he had been sharing and after a few minutes on the exam table Olive (who was still in the carrier) thumped loudly.  I think she wanted “her” bunny back!

Oh, and the vet thought he was closer to four months in age (shelter had estimated him to be between 2-4 months of age).

It sounds like the vet is excellent. Glad he got a good exam. Olive is going to be the bossy one of the two :~)

I have a bunny pair that I bunny sit for and it’s a female mini lop and a little Jersey Wooly mix male (think that’s what he is but not sure, he came from a hoarding situation I helped with) and the female is bossy and demanding :~) The male doesn’t seem to mind though, he’s very shy and quiet.

This vet was recommended by the HRS website, I believe, and did Olive’s spay (he even took her home overnight afterwards as part of the fee–kinda glad he did that, as it took the stress off of me directly post-op).  He is a very good vet, and I got a certificate voucher from my humane society for a free vet check up, which is exactly what I took advantage of in this case.  He says the bunny can be weighed for free in six months, and if I really want to, I can have him seen again at that time, but it’s really not necessary unless something else happens to be going on with the rabbit like the signs and symptoms I mentioned in my previous post.

Oh… Olive is the bossiest bunny I’ve known with regard to other rabbits–and while she grooms Simon (and funnily, it doesn’t work the other way around) she also shoves him around quite a bit, but he’s so retiring and mellow, he just lets her.  They had to work out that it was ok for Simon to be in her space, and once Olive realized that, they’ve been good friends.  They now are rarely out of each other’s sight for long.
