I am not shure if you have heard of this but its like dog agility only for bunnies if you look it up on You Tube I am shure you will find some videos for it anyway I have been training my rabbits for it and they love it I am not kidding!!!! Here is a picture of Arla jumping.

That’s so sweet! I don’t think either of my rabbits could be motivated enough to do that. They just sort of do whatever they want. =p
I think one of my buns Lulu Would LOVE agility! She loves to jump over/onto stuff! I never thought of making my own jump though! That is so cool!
That’s so ingenious to make your own!
Oh wow! Good idea! I think I might do this for Huckles. She probably will just try to eat it though, she is such a little piggy hahaha
what that is so cool! how are you training your bun? I have a clicker but the going is really slow. i started to click when feeding them and giving them treats. This is going super slow though as they are only interested in the food then run away. i can’t even imagine moving beyond this point. how did you do it?
Well I put down a thin pipe and gave Arla a gentle push when she went over I gave her a treat then I raised the jump and encouraged her to go over when she did not go over I just lifted her paws onto the jump and then gentle gave her a push. You can use a leash if your bunny runs away
That’s great! Bunnies take VERY well to clicker training, so I can’t see it being very hard to teach. I have clicker trained dogs, rats, parrots, and my rabbit (just to come when called and turn around when I tell him he can’t go wherever he’s headed, hehe). I have never had time to try agility with my bun, though I’ve done it with both of my dogs. I think it would be fun and it’s soooo good for them to get that kind of mental stimulation. It’s a huge confidence booster too. Training is a great way to get a rescue to come out of his or her shell IME.
Just added some pictures of my updated jumps made out of pipes.
you should post a video on here or youtube for us!
I forgot where i found this but it is soooo insane!
That is so cool I will put one on here of my rabbits doing agility. c=
I tryed downloading one of my videos but it said file type is not allowed.
How can I resize my video?
You can’t upload videos strait to BB. You have to first upload them to a site like Photobucket or youtube, then copy and paste the embedded code into a reply.
I just tried your cardboard jump with my bunnies, and Mocha Did it! He is the lazy bun! But he loves his pellets and that’s what I used for a treat! He actually liked doing it too! He did a mini binky after jumping over the jump! I will take a video next time of me doing it with him! I am so happy! I have been looking for a way to help him get more exercise and I think I just found it! Yay! Now just to get Lulu to do it! Haha Thanks for making this thread!
Ok here is the link for one of my videos. http://s1137.photobucket.com/albums/n502/rabbitlove1/?action=view¤t=2011-11-01_16-13-09_750.mp4
Aww! Did you buy the pipes or did you already have them? Also, how long did it take before they would just hop over all the jumps with out giving a treat between each one?
Well it took time. But what I did to motivate him to come was get a treat and wait for him at the end of all the jumps and he comes straight to me and yes I did buy the pipes.
Oh and another thing you should have the polls roll off when your bunny hits them just to avoid injury I am working on getting mine to fall of I am going to use a dremel to cut off part of the pipe so that the polls roll off when hit.
Thanks, I made mine so it can fall off. If he continues to like it I might have to make better ones like yours! ![]()
Cool!!!!!!! You should post a picture of your bunny hopping over the jump. c=
aww I loved the video! He loves to jump!
I will see if I can catch him jumping. ![]()
that is super cool that your bunnies are athletes. I’m inspired to try with mine. How long did it take you before they caught on?
It took about 10 minutes before he caught on to it. c=
Heehee that’s so cute! I taught Wilbur to go through a tunnel using pellets, now she does it on her own when she’s begging for a treat ![]()
Hmmm, After Mocha masters the Jumps I might have to try a tunnel!
By the way another thing to call rabbit agility is rabbit hopping. c=
I really want to try this! My main block is getting up the motivation to build some jumps – maybe I can go to the hardware store this weekend and see what I can find. I think Hannah would absolutely love jumping.
Elrohwen: Maybe just try the card board jump first before you buy the pipes just in case they end up not liking it ![]()
That’s a good idea – I’ll see if I can find something around the house that would make a good jump.
What do I do now! Today I did it with mocha, and he would hop over and did it alot of times, but then all of the sudden he would look really scared and run away from me and I had to coax him out of the cage again!
I think He figured out he is having to work for his food.
You should now try adding multiple low jumps and see if he will go over all of them I do not think you will need to give him a treat in between anymore just at the end of the jumps. c=
I will try! How often do you do a training session? Once a day? or more?
Once or twice a day.
Here are two videos of Mocha doing agility. Lulu only jumps over it once. My jump keeps falling over. I think I need a better one
( notice how Lulu just plows through the jump!
)
About a year ago, I tried for a little bit to make Peppy do jumps. I propped up books and tried to call her to me from the other side, but alas…she would just circle around the books and expectantly wait for her treat, haha. Love the videos of the home-made jumps!
Wow she is really good! If the jumps keep knocking over you could try oatmeal cans instead. c=
What treats do you use? My two buns are on a diet (one raisin once a day max -usually only 3-4/week). I could use pellets, but they only get 1/4 C between the two of them. I would have to transition to making them work for their breakfast pellets? I also may have to separate them, because they are both pretty food crazy (just walking in the room when its breakfast or dinner time, makes them go running and chasing each other).
Rabbit lover: Good Idea! how much were the jumps you made?
lwayne: My rabbits get like that at night too! ( their pellet time is at night) So last night I made them work for their pellets
Just take it out of their daily ration.
Like the cost of the jumps?
Yes, Sorry :/
Thats ok um they are like $8 for the pipes but you can go to rabbit agility.com and it will show you how to make them.
wow, loved the Youtube video, I’m going to try it with Furbee, she is the most active.
I think there is also someone else on here who is training her bun for agility, can’t remember who. I currently do dog agility, and I would love to do it with Momo, she is just such a belligerent little thing, but I think she would enjoy it. She loves to play with some of my practice agility stuff like my tunnel. I could easily modify my dog jumps for her too. I need to fix my dogs practice jumps anyways since he was moved up to the next height class. He was jumping 20″, but was re-evaluated and put into the 24″ class. He has no trouble clearing the bars, but we need to build up his stamina on them, he gets tired fast. Your average dog agility course (depending on the type) can have anywhere from 10 to 15 jumps on it.
I would need to figure out what Momo’s fancy show name would be. Her original name was “Momo Year Of The Rabbit”. But has since been changed to “Momo: The Destroyer”
I Love rabbit agility training. It’s so cool to watch.
I did post this pix on Facebook that appeared on LOLCats last month, however. Too cute not to share:
and the adorable:

Pam: Awe!
That is so so so cute!!!!!!
I put the one with the black and white bunny as my computer wallpaper! c=
LOL Me too!
