I’m very paranoid when it comes to my pets’ diets. I’ve bought groceries for myself in the liquidation store before (gross, but money was NOT good at the time) and skimped on other things so I could continue feeding all my pets the premium stuff. With my bunny, I’ve always been VERY weary of carrots and fruit. I avoid other starchy or sugar items altogether. But I wonder if I’m being a bit too paranoid, and maybe after 6 years I can loosen up a bit  I’m just curious as to how much fruit/carrot your bunny gets per week, his/her age, and any health problems you have run into in the past.

Moxie gets tons of greens with lots of variety. He loves his kale. I give him a small piece of fruit – thin slice of banana, small peeled slice of apple – once or twice a week as a treat. He also gets a small amount of carrot each week – one baby carrot of the equivalent about two-three times a week. Am I ripping him off?

I give Tipsy one grape a week. I think she loves her greens more than the sugary stuff though… she doesnt eat the grape as fast as she eats the dandelion greens.

The buns get a handful of shredded carrots in their salads. I rarely give fruit though, a craisen a day at most.

i give my buns 2 treats a day, a single raisin in the morning, and then either a sliver of dried papaya or an oxbow treat at night. Carrots, they each get about a 1 inch chunk every day with their dinner.

Both bunnies get 1 papaya tablet each first thing in the morning before their first serving of pellets. I give them some small treat with their salads and evening pellets. Usually this is small slice of carrot, apple, peach, banana or grape. Or maybe a craisin. Wilbur is 6 months, Totoro is 7 months. Neither of them have any health issues other than Totoro was found stray so I’m still going slow with introducing more/new veggies and fruits. I know sugar can cause weight and other health problems but I see no harm in giving a small daily treat unless there are pre-existing concerns/factors. We humans usually indulge in more than that in one day.

Mine just get their banana treats. One piece a day for each, usually. Sometimes the pieces will be pretty big, so I will break them in half and count each half as one piece.

Bunnyfriend, do you give the whole papaya tablet and they’ll chew it up?

Mine love the papaya tablets too. And yes, they’ll take little nibbles off it and just chew

                          Mine get carrots daily.

As for fruit – a few get craisins and I have a few that get the dried papaya and pineapple daily as treats. No fresh fruits though.

Mine get a little diced apple or pear in the morning, and a baby carrot later in the day. They will occasionally get a little piece of banana, and I also have some Oxbow dried banana slices that they get sometimes.

Mine get from ME a craisin every so often, but the boyfriend gives them craisins sometimes too and even though I told him a limit of two per bun, I think he cheats and gives them more when he hands out treats. I always have to get onto him about the pets not getting too many junky foods. o.O

I give the whole papaya tablet and they just take the entire thing from my hand in their mouth and chew it up. When I gave it to them the first time I held it out for them and they each tested out a couple nibbles before accepting the rest haha
