I haven’t been here in a while, heh.

Anyway. I have a few questions…. I figured I’d stack them all up in one thread instead of doing several, if that’s okay…?

My mom has been saying that Alex Bunny is too thin. I haven’t had bunnies before him so I don’t know what’s normal, but my grandmother has bred bunnies, so I guess my mom should know a bit about them (she doesn’t know much about diet, though. >.>). When I hold him I can feel his ilium and sort of feel his vertebrae. I haven’t weighed him because we don’t have a scale. Well, we do have a kitchen one, but it must be about 20 years old and is not too good…. But what do you think? And if he is too thin, what should I do to fatten him up? I’ve been giving him half a case of pellets (I think that’s how they’re called? Those cupcake-baking cases… Erm, this.) at lunchtime and another at night, unlimited hay, and veggies. I give him fruit too, sometimes.

Also, he seems to be a bit calmer lately. Sometimes he doesn’t want to leave his cage, and just stays in his bed all day. But then when he comes to the living room he binkies all over the place. I’m confused! Other than that, he is completely fine. XD Do you think the weather might have something to do with it? Sounds unlikely, but it changed drastically over night, literally. One day I’m in short sleeved shirts and the next day I’m taking a jacket and umbrella to school. If it phisically affects us, (I’ve been terribly sleepy, too. XD) I see no reason for it not to affect rabbits as well.

Oh and he sneezes sometimes when he’s eating. But that is probably because he’s a pig and eats too fast.

Today I’ve been preparing Alex’s “winter house” (in other words, making his cage nice and cozy.) If you could take a look and tell me what you think, and what I need to add/take off, it would be greatly appreciated.

How old is he? Slowing down is very normal as they age – bunnies tend to get lazier and lazier. It could be the weather too and a change in daylight hours.

I’m not sure I understand how much pellets he’s getting – I haven’t seen those cupcake things before. Do you know how much that is in a cup? Or some other baking measurement? Generally small to medium adult rabbits don’t need more than 1/4 cup of pellets a day (and many of us feed less).

It’s hard to say if he’s thin, especially without a picture, but that’s something a vet could probably tell you. Since it sounds like he’s getting a good diet, if he is overly thin it could indicate other health problems, since it doesn’t seem like he’s getting too little food.

I couldn’t see the picture you posted, but in general it’s not necessary to make changes to habitats for indoor buns during the winter. I think mine are much more comfortable when the house is 60F than when it’s 78F in the summer. I might be chilly, but they’re just fine.

He’s around 11 months old now. He is very active in the morning, (around 7am) but by then I don’t have much time for him since I have to get to school… And, yes, I think that would be about 1/4 cup. We haven’t taken him to the vet yet – we’re planning to do that next month – since we’ve been having some financial problems lately, >.<". I don't think he is overly thin, he was much thinner when we bought him, but I just don't like to feel his bones. :/
Fixed the link now. (: The house isn’t too chilly right now, but we don’t have heaters so it will probably get colder soon-ish.

Different bunnies are different as far as body type. I can feel Powders bones, but he’s not too thin, he’s just more a thin line of muscle than the sturdier bulkier way Stickers is (I can’t feel her bones), a little like a hare. My vet says he’s great though and he’s 6.4lbs. So your bun could just be the more slim, athletic type, but always best to be cautious and have him checked if you are worried.

Rabbits are most active at dawn and dusk, about 7 am – 7pm but it depends on the rabbit, So that’s why he sleeps all day its normal.

Also pet store cages are actually to small for rabbits. Rabbits should have at least 2 feet by 4 feet.

Mocha, I know that.. :/ But he is never in the cage anyways, he prefers to be outside. He just uses it to sleep. He’s a small bunny, though.
