Hazel, my 2 yr old Netherland Dwarf doe, was using her litter box well (I would say 100% for pee, 85% for poop) until this week. I have only had her for 2 weeks, but I had high hopes. However, since she has settled in she is displaying hormonal behaviors (circling, honking, etc) and is amazingly cuddly (she licks me everywhere and comes and sits on me for pets constantly). I am assuming that her lack of litterbox focus is coming from her hormones? She is pooping a lot now, and evening dribbling tiny bits of pee when she is outside of her cage, whereas before she was using her favorite litterbox in the corner of the living room. I have been keeping her confined to the living room while we work on these issues and have otherwise been doing everything right. Is this just a hormonal bunny? If so, I can’t wait until her spay next Wednesday!

Yep, it would be hormonal marking. If she’s showing territorial behavior elsewhere, it’s natural for the marking to show. Should settle a month or so after her spay.

Yes, this is most likely because of the hormones, but since she is 2 years old (over a year past maturity) and this is suddenly happening I would ask the vet about testing for a UTI.

Should I be correcting her in any way? I find it difficult to put her back in her litterbox after every little poop…maybe I should just wait until after the spay and see what happens?

Just clean up her messes and place THEM back in the litter box, you likely aren’t going to get her to stop marking until after the spay, but you don’t want her to think the floor is her litter box either. Be sure to clean up any wet spots with vinegar.
