My rabbit lives in a an exercise pen and it has a mat. Normally since it was summer time I would take the mat outside and spray it with vinegar and water and rinse and let dry. Now that it is winter time I can’t do that so I was wondering if it was ok to just use the vaccuum in her cage to clean the mat? i did it today and it worked. She really doesn’t pee or poop outside her box. Thanks

The only thing I really wash with vinegar is the litterbox. Can you just spot wash the mat with vinegar and a washcloth when it needs it?

Well I vacuum daily. I think as long as you clean it you don’t need to spray it with vinegar unless it is absolutely necessary as Sam and Lady stated.

I use the vacuum on my rabbits room – caution though on two things: Unless you have a “pet” vacuum fur is hard for them and will clog the hose. Hay is hard for even the pet ones and will clog the hoses. And after you use it to clean up droppings a while, it begins to have a slight smell to it. Maybe buy a shop vac if you want to use a vacuum to clean out the pen, as you’d bypass all those problems. And you probably want to remove her from the pen to clean it up to avoid freak outs if your bun is scared of the vacuum.

I take a sponge and wipe my buns vinyl mats with vinegar water after an acident. And I spritz with a spray bottle the carpet if it begins to smell at all… but if she’s good about litter habits shouldn’t be a problem with your bun.

I use my shop vac to clean up thier droppings and hair and it works great cause you can clean it out once a month with vingar to kill any smell. plus it doesnt get clogged if the hay gets in it. I have a snap on brand and its not too loud on my pair of buns either.

Thanks for the great tips. I only use 1 vaccuum for the rabbits and yes I do remove her so that I can clean her cage. Thanks again

I use a carpet sweeper to pick up the hay every now and then, and then my dyson vacuum for the real vacuuming

I feel old fashioned, I just use a broom and dustpan.

bull, it depends on the bun. Mine both freak out like something is chasing them the second the vacuum comes on, so I don’t make them stay around it.

Sam and Lady’s Human: I used to too! Only now I sweep up hay and poos with a broom and dustpan then vacuum the small crumbs of litter/ hay I can’t get up with the broom. That way it doesn’t clog the vacuum hose!

OK, you guys, wait till you get to the point where a broom, dustpan, vacuum cleaner and paper towels are just too much work to bring in and pick up the poos, hay, fur, and various whatever is scattered around with your hands. sigh. At least I wash my hands afterward like someone with OCD.

I cant wait, fortunately my buns are so good at not making a mess, but I usually have to clean it right away and clean thier cage every other day.

I use a vaccuum, but I use the hose as opposed to running it over, seems to clog up less often. Didnt know about the lingering odor, I might switch to a shop vac to avoid that!

Pam, I do that if there isn’t a huge mess, but I keep a roll of tissue in their room so I don’t have to use my bare hands.

Lol this is y I use a shop vac because it can pick up all of it ( including any wet accidents) without any clogging. But to each thier own method.

I use a shop vac on my whole house, not just pet areas…believe me it will still stink of pet mess after awhile, no matter how much I wash it out.

I was washing out my bunnies’ area twice a day with vinegar and water and that turned out to be too much. He’s got allergies now because of it. I just use really hot water now and only vinegar when things get excessively smelly or stained.

Has anyone here had success finding/using vanodine?

I usually vacuum and only spot clean with vinegar. The litter boxes both get cleaned with vinegar, as does the plastic bottomed cage they sit in. The rest of their pen is covered in a rug so I pick up all of the big pieces of cardboard/paper/etc then vacuum and spot clean any areas that seem to be peed on.

I’m just thinking if you took it outside and hosed it, you could probably put it in the shower and hose it with the shower?
