Eek Wilbur started biting me last week ( a total of 4 times). I had never been bitten hard enough by a rabbit to break the skin until then so it was a litte shocking especially since I was just going in for a pet! I know it’s just her trying to communicate something to me and am not taking it personally or thinking she’s evil (well okay she might be a little evil sometimes ;P). Should I just leave her alone until she gets spayed? I don’t want her to feel like I’m mad or rejecting her, she still comes up and nudges me with her nose all the time and lets me pet her for a while but then she’ll (what feels randomly to me) bite me and she’s broken my skin a couple times.

I have been told that most of the time bunnies dont know how hard they r nipping at you. But to make a loud yelping noise to let them know that they hurt you, because most of the time its not thier intention to hurt you.

*nod* Bunnies bite each other to communicate, saying get out of the way, or get away from my stuff, or even to say groom me! Make a loud squeal like a rabbit being hurt when she does it. And wear jeans and a long sleeve shirt for now when you play with her, to avoid the skin breaking bites hurting as bad.

Thanks haha so I should just keep being normal? I’m really hoping this behavior will go away after her spay

Leopold just bites. He doesn’t care how hard he’s biting you either. Believe me, I tried the yelping/squealing thing and it didn’t do a thing. Tried pushing his head down and telling him no, that didn’t do a thing either. He just likes to bite. Not sure if this is a hormonal thing with you bun, I’ve never had to deal with an unspayed female. Just have my boys. =p

Well, sort of a baby. He has always liked to bite though. Not sure why. He looks for the softest spot too.

I dunno if it will go away after the spay. Stickers has always ran up and nipped me, she did it harder before her spay, but she still does it. If I am sitting on the floor… she’ll walk up behind me, sniff my back, then take a bite. I know every time she comes up to sniff me, I am going to get nipped. She learned to be gentle enough though that it doesn’t really hurt. I think it’s her way of asking for things. lol For some buns getting them to be gentle is about all you can ask for.

the only time franz ever acts defensive is when he has a bloated tummy! That’s how I know he’s sick. Maybe you should feel his tummy and make sure it’s not hard?

Thanks everyone! Wilbur (and Totoro) both have appointments on Wednesday, Wilbur for a pre spay checkup and bloodwork and Totoro for a baseline. I think it is the hormones because she started peeing outside her litter box (I’m going to make sure it’s not a uti). I just checked and her tummy feels normal.
