Ok so Im new here with the whole bunny thing so Im not quiet sure how they should act.  I always had  dogs and you know when they are happy   Here is my bunnies routine.  Remind you she has only been at my house for 2 weeks now.  She Stays in here cage and goes from her hideout house to her litter box.  She is eating and drinking well.  Then she will come out and goes under the tv and stays there during the day and then mid day back to her cage.  Then back out again around 11 pm.  She just does not seem happy.  I give her different toys and she has no interest in them.  She does go into her tunnel I gave her.  She gets excited once in a while and will run in and out of her boxes I made her and back and forth and then she is done for  the day.  Im just not sure how active they should be.  Does her level of activity sound normal to you?  I try to get egg cartons and put hay in them and she doesnt care.  I have a hay rack and she never touches that just the day in her litter box.  I dont know maybe I just have a real layed back bunny.  I just want to make sure she is happy.  thanks Mindy

She’s still a baby yet right? Baby bunnies are cute, but not always the most entertaining I’ve found. When they get to be adults they are a little more “toss the egg carton around”.

But in general, I’d say bunnies are more like cats than dogs, they just kinda laze around all day and wake up around dusk and then dawn to go crazy for a minute.

It does sound normal. Rabbits are crespsecular by nature which means they are most active dawn and dusk. It may take her awhile to come out of her shell too.

Give her much more time, it can awhile for some rabbits to come out of their shell and feel comfortable. Babies do sleep alot too.

Thanks ladies.  Good to know.  She did come out and ran around and did some binkys and actually went to my daughter that was lying on the ground and went up to her a few times and put her little feet on her.  Then back to her cage.  i guess bunnies are not as active as I thought they where.  Thanks again.  Mindy

What you just described is a happy bunny (binkies) who is getting to know your family. It is excellent behavior. Remember that a baby is unfamiliar with absolutely everything in the world, so doesn’t know the difference between a toy and an object in their environment. They move out from their safe place, usually their cage, in ever-widening circles that they explore. It’s all new, big, and occasionally overwhelming. Usually a month at least produces a greater comfort zone and the bunny shows more energy.

I predict that a year from now you will be complaining about your bunny getting into all kinds of mischief due to fearlessness – in between naps.

Rabbits have a range of activity levels. One of mine is pretty active, while the other sits around all day and all evening. I’m lucky if I see a binky once a week – even as a baby he’s always been quiet and lazy. But lazy can be a good thing! I know my lazy guy will never get into any trouble, but my more active bunny is always looking for something new to get into.

Definitely normal bunny behavior. They can literally sleep ALL day, which is kind of nice for me because I know I’m not missing anything while I’m at work . My lop is especially lazy. He goes from his cage at 8:00am to under the bed till 5pm when he comes out for his veggies.
