Totoro was neutered on 9/15/11, his poos (not cecals) are giving off a really nauseating odor, normally I don’t notice rabbit poos at all but it’s making the whole room stink. Does this have something to do with his hormones not being fully gone yet? I’m trying to litter box train him, he’s got peeing down but he poops everywhere and I’m thinking this also has to do with hormones.

I’d call the vet and see what they think. As far as I know, rabbit poop shouldn’t stink.

Are they normal formed poos or does he have diarrhea?

Rabbits will poop everywhere, mine do, it’s natural but a different story for the bunny owner! You can round up all the poops and deposit them in the litterbox and if you keep doing this faithfully, eventually – it may take a month or more – the bunny will catch on and just poop in his litterbox. I’d mention the odor to your vet.

I notice a little smell with Momo’s when she decides to deposit a small pile in front of her litter, but when they are all in the litter I do not notice any smell at all. But it is noting too bad when I do smell them.

It could be territorial marking and some bunnies will poop everywhere and add a little smelly coating to them.   (especially if you have more than one bunny or other animals).  Not all bunnies do this though and so since it is still so early after neutering, don’t give up hope.   Did it seem to get worse….or just continue after neutering?  When you say they are big….or they mushy to the touch or dry and hard?  There can be health related issue to smelly poops but many times the texture and size of the poop is also unusual. (soft can mean something is wrong)

They are really dry and hard, he eats hay constantly which I am so happy about (just to be sure though, they can’t really eat too much right?). I think the smell is going away and he is using his litter box more. I just adopted him the Thursday before last and he was already neutered so I don’t know how it was before that. I have set up a vet appointment for this Wednesday.

Hey, I have notice with Loki that they do sometimes smell, it is usually after veg and he eats them – this isn’t very frequent though. If it is constant, I’d mention it to the vet.
