Can someone tell me how to clean these? I checked Spooky’s bottom today and the scent glads are very dirty. They are almost stuck together with a brown substance, I assumed was poop.

What does this mean? Do i need to take him to the vet?

FYI: In the green banner above under Bunny Info. there is a section on monthly maintenance. You can find some suggestions regarding the cleaning of scent glands there. You clearly had success, but it may have some tips you will like reading about as well.

I never cleaned my buns scent glands till a few months ago. I have a disabled needs bun and he is unable to clean his scent glands so I have to clean them for him. I just use a wet q-tip he doesn’t seem to mind it.

Can you clean them without trancing?

I just held him like a baby in my lap and put his head in between my arm and body to keep him from moving around and being able to see whats going on. I don’t think he was in a trance though.

Thank you! What I meant by trancing was flipping them on their back

I can’t trance Bindi. Even my vet can’t trance him. It’s a 2 man job doing anything with him. My bf holds him (baby burping style) and I just sort of lift his bum up a little and clean them. I also use this bunny-holding method for nail clipping all 3 of my buns.
