So I picked up probiotics from the vet today for August’s over-producing cecals issue and the “tastes great!” probiotics apparently do not taste so great to August…can I mix it up with some applesauce or some sort of baby food?  She already hates being picked up and I just struggled with her for 10 minutes to get 1/2 a ML in her mouth, onle 1.5 ML to go !~  Do I need to worry about upsetting her stomach with a little something to hide the flavor?

I tried to squirt some on a lettuce leaf and give it to her…she would not be fooled.

I found putting the bunny on a surface, especially the couch and allowing them to get comfy worked. Then I braced the back and put the syringe in the mouth-so that’s a technique to try
I think mixing it would be fine, I’ve had success putting apple juice with meds before

An over-production of cecals can also be caused by a diet that is too rich or too many treats, so it would seem to me that mixing with something sweet might do more harm than good. I would just continue working with her and try to deliver the meds traditionally. It’s okay if she doesn’t love the taste. Just a few seconds and it’s done. Many animals don’t take meds willingly.

I place my buns on the kitchen counter (on a towel for traction) so they are at a better height for me to manipulate.

I ended up having my husband give her the probiotics while I held her still. She was not pleased and much foot flicking ensued!

If it becomes harder for the two of you to administer and you really want to mix it with food, try getting a can of unsweetened pumpkin. (Or, since it’s October, mash up a bit of fresh pumpkin.) If your bunny likes it, and most do, it will not be as sweet.
