I haven’t been here in a few days and now it’s for something bizarre- hopefully I’m worrying needlessly here. BunBun managed to get ahold of one of my June McKenna santa figurines and gnawed on it a bit. There’s only a tiny bit missing off the santa- I’m trying to think of how to describe the amount- maybe an 1/8 teaspoon at most, if I gathered everything he chipped off together (but of course it’s gone since he seems to have swallowed it). Mainly he got the paint- which is hopefully nontoxic. What’s got me freaking out is that I read online just now that resin dust is highly toxic- so I’m wondering about resin ingested? All I know is that the figurine is made of resin, according to a website selling one.

He seems fine and it’s been over an hour now. He’s eaten papaya, parsley and now he’s working on his hay. I checked his teeth, btw, cuz those figurines are HARD- who would imagine them being appealing to chew on?? His teeth are perfectly intact. Of course it’s nighttime so I can’t call my vet.  I’m pretty sure this is fine, given that Bun has eaten other weird things and not suffered any ill effects. I guess I’m just checking on here to see if anyone has had a similar experience (!) or if anyone knows that ingesting a tiny amount of resin is truly an emergency. I’m thinking that unless I hear otherwise, I will just watch Bun for the rest of the night, which I do anyway, and keep him eating/drinking. What do you all think?

Rabbits are notorious for chewing on things you would think would just NOT be appetizing.  Though I am not sure of toxicity levels within your figurine, it doesn’t sound like a very large amount.  I’d just keep an eye on him, and watch his input/output (eating, drinking, pooping) and just call your vet in the morning for reassurance.

LOL BB put that perfect. It’s like ‘seriously-you want to eat that’ I’d keep an eye and phoning the vet to check is a great suggestion

I’d give him an extra dose of hay, and the papaya is good, and water, to flush it out. Put Santa on a high shelf! lol

BB, K&K and Lashkay- I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for replying! Sorry to bump the post up though . Sure enough, BunBun is fine. I went on vacation the next day and never had time to reply to the post- now I’m finally home and have a minute.
Yes, the Santa figurines are way out of BunBun’s reach now. Did I mention that the figurine he snacked on sells for $150-$250? I sell antiques and collectibles, and Bun has developed a fine eye for the good stuff. He can easily pick out the most pricey item from any display, and he always “restores” it immediately.
