When I was at Petsmart today I saw that they have a huge bag of timothy hay from the All Living Things brand. I usually get Oxbow, but does the brand make a difference when it comes to hay? My buns go through hay like water, they’re constantly eating it, so if I can get bigger bags at a time it would be more convenient. But if this brand is not going to be as healthy for them, then I won’t switch. Thoughts?

Have you tried a local horse quality hay place or your state’s chapter of the House Rabbit Society? I used to buy oxbow then my bunny got picky now I buy bales of hay for the same price. Really saves money and it’s good quality hay!

Good call. I had thought about this in the past, but forgot. I’ll have to do some googling. I’ve never looked into horse related places around the city before. Just checked the HRS, and they do have a few sites that they recommend that sell hay.

There are big differneces in hay-quality, type and cut. And it varies too, one brand can have great hay one time and another, it’s older and dusty.

In reality they are bagging up hay, and hay is something that grows. So I am not picky at all in the hay department-brand wise. I look at the hay itself. Your watching for mold at home, though I’ve NEVER had moldy hay. And I like to get a nice green soft hay, but whatever is a good price is usually what I get. I keep my hay in a big bin and often mix it up-some orchard, some meadow some timothy; I buy bags and mini bales.

I really agree going with horse bales It’s the highest quality. Could you belive I live in Alberta, and I cannot find a soul who will sell me a couple of small bales yet?

Soooo-if it looks good, and they eat it-I’d go for it It’s great they are eating so much hay btw GREAT!
