I’ve occasionally given Monty a spoonful of rolled oats as an occasional treat in the past, which he loves. What I want to know is, is it safe to give my buns steel cut oats as a treat? I have a whole tin of them which I’m never going to get through on my own…

I’m not familiar with that type of oats. Can someone else jump in here?

            Sometimes known as irish oats.

            Anyone have any idea?

Hmm, if my internet searching is anything to go by, they may actually be a better choice than the oats I normally give him!

I know steel cut oats are good for us and for birds, but unsure about rabbits. :S maybe your vet would be able to answer that question?

Well, as a very small treat – it really is not the best treat as it is a carbohydrate.

As I understand it, steel cut oats ARE plain rolled oats, and are perfectly safe in mini-amounts.

Agree with Sarita- keep the portions very very small- a spoonful is way too much! But yes, safe.
