I decided to keep Smudge, Tillie and Toby where they have been living. So, to give Smudge more time with me, I took a play yard (still seperating him from the other 2), extended it and took the baby gate down so he could run into the room I spend a fair amount of time in. I ran downstairs to switch out laundry and Toby pushed the play yard just enough (have since secured this area better) to squeeze through. I heard a scuffle, ran upstairs and saw them going around in circles. I immediately seperated them and looked them both over well. I did not see blood or a wound.

Tonight, I was petting Smudge and felt something on his hind quarter. He did get bit I am calling the vet tomorrow, but wanted to know if anyone has dealt with a bite wound and if antibiotics are routine in this case? I am so afraid of an abcess. And, yes, the area both rabbits are contained is more secure.

They don’t always get an abscess but it’s a good idea to take a very good look at the wound and better to be safe than sorry. It’s been a very long time since I’ve dealt with this but bite wounds that don’t heal can be very problematic.
