What do you guys give your bunnies for treats? What is so terrible about yogurt drop treats? My boyfriend gave Ollie one once and he was in love with it but I told him not to give them to him anymore.

I give Wilbur craisins, Oxbow treats, bunny biscuits (recipe from rabbit.org) and raisins. Her papaya supplement doubles/counts as a treat because it’s sugary and she loves it. And of course things like carrots, apples, peaches, ect. Yogurt treats along with any human food (even crackers, cereal, bread, ect.) cause the buildup of bad bacteria in rabbits which is toxic.

Yogurt is high in sugar, dairy and promotes healthy (in humans, unhealthy in rabbits) bacteria which isn’t natural in rabbits. Most of the treats you find in stores are very high in sugar content and it isn’t natural sugar either like fruit, but processed. Yuck. I feed carrots, apple, banana, etc as treats sometimes and even some greens since they love them so much. Some of the hays I can use as treats too, like oat since they don’t eat too much of it but will nibble it as a treat hay.

Rabbits can’t actually digest any dairy… They don’t possess the need to after a few weeks after birth, like 99.99% of animals
Basically, it’s like feeding dairy to someone strictly lactose-intolerant. It probably won’t kill them but it won’t make them feel too good.
As for healthy treats, the only thing my rabbits get are the occasional Barley Biscuits from Oxbow or a little piece of pineapple, which they will do anything for. Lol.

It’s dairy which is a no no for an adult mammal especially one that digests through hind gut fermentation-a delicate balance of GI flora which can be disrupted by dairy and other non foods, as well as the sugar.
                To boot-they are plain junk.

I give oxbow papaya tablets, freeze dried and dried fruit-cranberries and papaya often. And real fruit. And I guess you could consider the herbs treats since those are small and they love them.

try giving him some all natural dried fruit treats! I get my bunny dried papaya treats and he loves them. I am comfortable giving him a few daily because i know that they are healthy! My bunny also really likes fresh fruits and veggies! There are some you cant give them, but things like apples, lettuce (not iceburg) carrots, celery, and grapes are good!
But dont give them to much!

I give Bun-Bun pellets as treats since he rarely gets them. That’s how I get him back in his condo for the night, I shake the pellet bag and he runs back in because he knows what’s coming!

I also give him raisins and/or craisins when I have to put Bag Balm on his little sore hock (not really a sore hock yet, but a a spot where the fur has rubbed off, with a callus on his foot.) He panicks when I pick him up, and I feed him a raisin or two while holding him on his back. He can hyperventilate and eat a raisin at the same time – LOL.

He also begs for food every time I cook, so he gets a bit of tomato, pepper, or other sweet veg on a regular basis. Absolutely no processed food (although he breaks out of his cage and eats cat food every couple weeks… grrrrr!)
