I have a dwarf lop eared bunny.  She is really sweet and active.  I swear, she thinks she’s a mix between a toddler and a dog; she gets into everything and she jumps up on the furniture.  Lately, I noticed that she’s been eating and hopping around with one eye closed.  And today I found her eye tearing up more than it should be.  She also will not let me pet or touch her anymore.  I’m not sure what’s wrong, but she got behind a china cabinet and chewed through a wire that was plugged in.  She seemed fine when we finally got her out.  She was walking around normally and everything.  I am not sure if her eye could be from the shock of the open wires or just an extreme allergy thing.  Please respond as soon as possible.

Let the vet see her. It could be something as simple as she has a whisker in her eye, or it could be an infection, or she could have gotten into something and debris got into her eye, or… well, you get the idea, the list can go on for a while. A quick office checkup and the vet should be able to tell you what is wrong.

Definitely get her to a vet. It would be impossible for us to diagnose her over the internet. It could just be a number of things as Stickerbunny stated and a physical exam is going to be the only way to know.

            I hope she’s okay.

Any pet can get an unexplained injury to the eye- and it is best to have the vet check it out to make sure the eye itself is not scratched- and the vet will be able to prescribe eye drops to help heal the eye. Delayed treatment in some cases can cause scarring and delayed healing.
But if for example you noticed it at 7pm the night before- and if by am it is not better- then it is time to call the vet. As long as the pet is eating and drinking and it is not an obviously horrific eye injury- but tearing and squinty- it is OK to give it a bit of time for the vet to be open to call.

She very well may have scratched her eye on something, and it’s causing her irritation. The vets will be able to check her eyes and see if there’s a scratch, inflammation, infection, etc. It might just need something as simple as some medicated eye drops/gel to help sooth the pain and decrease the inflammation. If it’s something more serious, the vet might refer you to a vetrinary eye specialist, but hopefully it’s just a simple scratch that can be easily treated.
