omg i love your dad!
My dad always joked about another rabbit.. but I was respectful that I still live with him. I told him that while I'm busy at school and work, she'll have a friend...
Still no call yet.. If I don't get a call after work, I'M GOING TO CALL BACK AGAIN |

Maybe something is going on with the rescue owners - there could be an emergency or something that's causing them to take more time. Just stay positive! If you get him, will you rename him? What's "chocolate" in Japanese? |

That is very true.. >___< *breathe!!!!!!!!!!!!!* I think I'll keep his name. Chacha's given name means 'Black Tea' in Japanese. Chocolate in Japanese is shortened to 'Cho-ko,' I believe. I must get ready for work. I hope the shelter calls me back while I'm at work... or after.. or tomorrow.. hahah |

I've heard a lot of stories about how slow foster families and rescues get back to people. I think it's normal to not hear a response immediately. Even if you don't get Chocolate, it's cool that you are finally ready to open up your house to another bunny! There are sooooo many out there, so even if this doesn't work out, I'm sure there will be another one waiting. I'm interested to see how Chacha does with the initial meeting and then with bonding afterwards! Honestly, I think you'll end up with more than just two rabbits- Queen Chacha needs many minions. |

Oh yes, I just experienced that lol. I called the direct line and they said it can take a while -_-;; I checked his page again and it went from 19 likes to 51! Are you guys all clicking LIKE on his page? Hahah!! Man, it makes me a little nervous about how many may consider adopting him. I left a second voicemail this morning. I hope that it shows that I am serious about possibly adopting him. I sent an e-mail to the manager of the shelter. I hope that can push things through. If it wasn't meant to be, I'll be sad, but.. there are always other ones out there. If he taken, I hope that he gets an entire house to run around in. Hahahah! :p As long as I'm with my dad, I don't think i'll have more than 2! My bf is a little nervous about me having 2 rabbits.. but he loves miss Diva. He'll have to love whoever she chooses. I told him the benefits of her having a friend Chacha needs minions to groom her 24/7 HAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! |

UPDATE I emailed the shelter manager and I received a phone call back from a volunteer. He said that a family had seen Chocolate, but the foster parent has not returned any emails whether or not he was adopted or not. He is guessing not, but you never know. He said the foster parent is a girl out of high school whose mother will not let her have any rabbits. The volunteer said that he will keep in contact with me (and even give me his email) to let me know whether or not Chocolate has been adopted or when the foster parent contacts him back to arrange a visit (for me). THE SUSPENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I'm kind of frustrated... he did mention that the foster parent doesn't respond to e-mails very much... |

When we took Gabby to meet Thumper I was so nervous she wouldn't like him. The foster mom who works part time at the shelter thought Thumper may never be placed in a home due to his previous household tormenting him. He hopped thru the x pen and right into the pet store guinea pig/rabbit cage I brought Gabby in. She sat still as a statue and after a while he laid beside her. They rode all the way home side by side and after a few days of chasing they are so in love.
I hope you get your Chocolate and Cha Cha loves him. |

They should make sure that the foster people are willing to co-operate. That is the point of fostering...to get more animals adopted.
And especially with the sheer number of rabbits available. Unfortunately, they are "a dime a dozen"... so if you weren't already somewhat invested in him, you'd be off looking at another bun already and they would have missed their chance.
So if this girl isn't allowed rabbits, I wonder why she's allowed to foster? Did they say if this is the only rabbit she has there? You would think HER mother would be the one answering emails saying, "YES! Come see the rabbit [so we can get it out of here]." Unless the daughter is purposely not answering emails because she doesn't *want* the bun to get adopted because then "her" rabbit is gone and her mom doesn't want anymore. So many theories, lol.
Regardless, hopefully you can go see him, but try not to be too attached (it's hard I know), in case the meeting doesn't go well. If ChaCha doesn't like him, the responsible thing to do is move on and meet other buns.
Read the beginning of the HRN bonding article prior to going b/c this details what to expect. You might know this to some degree from being on the board, but it's a good reminder:

I don't get it either, Beka. That is my intention. if Chacha doesn't like him, that is the end of it. I'm not going to force her to like him if she doesn't. Thank you for the article |

When I was looking at rescues it took over a week for the rescue to get back to me about a pair of buns that were up for adoption, it's a shame so many don't respond very quickly! Would probably increase adoptions to simply answer emails within the set time frame. Hope he's still available, I would think they would make their fosters at least respond to emails ... or keep them updated on if the bun has been adopted or not, shouldn't the rescue have the final say in that anyway? |

Brittany, I'm on tenterhooks! It looks like he's with a general animal shelter, not rabbit specific rescue. That might also be why there are delays. So many animals. What's "chocolate" in Japanese? Haha I'd wondered that too and looked it up. Choko and Chacha would sound verrry cute.... I hope you hear something soon and Chacha approves if they meet. |

Sorry about chocolate - but there are TONS of rabbits out there that need homes. Try to remember that shelter/rescue volunteers - are just that - volunteers. They work full time jobs, have kids to take to soccer, meals to cook - their lives are just as hectic as everyone else's and they quite amazingly take on the responsibility of volunteering to save lives as well. So while allowing a young girl who is not allowed to have a rabbit (?) to volunteer seems really odd at best - just try to keep in mind what a full plate rescue foster families and volunteers have. If 30 people are interested i nteh same animal how long would it take you to read through all the applications and do vet checks and get references? It can be a long process. Did you fill out an app for chocolate? His ad may have been taken down because he had a lot of applications but they had not yet decided on the best potential adopter. Best of luck in finding a bunny that fits the bill if you are still interested in adding a second |

Awww, I'm sorry Britt! When we first looked for a second bunny there were a couple I was very interested it and none of them worked out. One was still listed and her previous owners had been holding onto her - by the time I inquired, they said they weren't sure they wanted to give her up. After waiting a week they said they wanted to keep her. I was so sure she was going to be our bunny! When we got Hannah I wasn't sure of her at all and felt like she wasn't our first choice bunny. Of course, now I love her to death and I can't imagine not having her. You'll find the right bunny for you and Chacha :-) |

You should check out Flemmies; their personalities are so different from other bunnies! I get to see lots of pet bunnies from loveable house rabbit people because when I go to my rabbit sitter she's always got a full house! The flemmies I've met so far are all super pokey and love snuggles. Except one I met she didn't really care about anything lol, but that was at the shelter. |

I'll have to see what Miss Diva chooses at the shelter in the near future. There are no flemmies at the shelter right now. |
