I introduced Bamboo to the older girls, Moomoo and Lulu, last night.  Bamboo’s been fixed for about two months now.  Bamboo is considerably smaller than them but she was so mean!  She really pulled out a lot of Moomoo’s fur.  I was breaking them up and then Bamboo turned around and kept biting me in the legs, and she broke skin on my calves.  I kept pushing her away but she kept attacking and biting my legs.  Nobody got hurt but me.  I wonder why she turned on me?  I’m fine with keeping them separated, but she’s been standoffish with me ever since.

Were they one on one in a neutral space? The stress may have been too much.

I think she was in protection mode and she was attacking whoever and whatever was in the way – just like you would be if you felt threatened – your adrenaline is pumping and you are just pummeling your attacker. She’s been stressed.

Just because a rabbit is fixed doesn’t mean that the introduction is going to be easy especially if it’s a group of females.

And yes, was it in a neutral territory…

There is no neutral place in my apartment. They all have access to every room when they are out. I know she was really stressed, they all were. Poor thing.

                Even the bath tub? o.O

Yeah when they are all free range the bath tub is a good place since no bun is likely to go there of their own free will. Glad no one was hurt (well, sorry you were, but glad no bun was hurt!)

It’s ok I’ll take one for the team. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised, it’s so tough on them. She’s always been sweet though. I know she’ll be sweet again. I think I’m going to keep her separate from the girls, at least for awhile.

You might want to start limiting their access to part of the house. After a few months, it may regain some of the neutrality. And when the time comes, you’ll have to do sessions with each pair separately.

Stormy did the same thing to me during a session. He felt threatened and I went to reassure him and he bit my elbow super hard and it bled and bruised. I know that he was afraid because he’s normally sweet as pie. You just have to be extra careful when dealing with a bunny that’s afraid or feeling super territorial.

Well it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen between Bamboo and the girls. They fight so bad every time I put them together that I can’t see it happening. Neutral territory isn’t working, like the tub.

I’m thinking of getting Bamboo a separate friend, but what if she is just meant to be a solitary bun? I’d like her to have a friend since she always watches the girls together. I don’t know if she watches them because she doesn’t like them or if she is kind of lonely?

You could take her bunny dating and see if she gets along with anyone, if you want to bond her to someone. But some bunnies are fine being solitary as well.
