So my Penelope is a VERY picky eater. She has never liked pellets and she won’t almost any of the veggies I’ve had her try. I’ve found a group of veggies that she’s taken a liking to and she gets those everyday. I’ve also kept just a few pellets in her cage, changing them every couple days or so, just in case she ever changed her mind about eating them. Well, low and behold, after almost three years, I noticed that the pellets in the cage were gone. I thought maybe the cats had gotten in there and eaten them. So I put more in and she came running and gobbled them up! I haven’t changed anything in her diet and she is still acting normal. There is no difference in poop and still drinks the same amount of water.

Basically what I’m asking is, do I need to be concerned? Is the reason she started eating her pellets because her body is telling her she needs more of something? Probably over-reacting, it’s just she’s never eaten them in the past. I’ve pondered about taking them out completely, but I’ve always thought…no, no, just in case lol

I wouldn’t worry. She may have decided she likes them…might want to increase them a bit just in case if she’s a picky veggie eater.

Mmm…my 1st thought is if she’s reduced her hay intake at all she might be looking for the pellets more. Is she eating less hay?

Also, if you’ve accidently picked up alfalfa based pellets instead of Timothy (or vice versa.) Even a formula change that omits a previous ingredient she didn’t like. Their noses are powerful things!

            What age is Penelope?

Penelope will be turning 3 next month. (Gosh, feels like I only got her yesterday!) And no, she seems to be eating the same amount of hay, she really does LOVE her some hay lol And I’ve always gotten her the same thing, the Bunny Basic Timothy pellets from Oxbow. I don’t know, I think she may just be crazy!!

Yes, I’m going to go with her being crazy . Rabbits tastes change just like people, that’s why you’re supposed to keep offering veggies even if they snub them the first few times. Good for you.

Well, at her age, it is possible she could start developing dental problems too, so it wouldn’t hurt to have the vet check her teeth if she has had some changes in her diet.
