(just looking for possibilities) ETA: I did post the same thing back when Sunny was a baby and got some opinions, but was told I should wait until he’s reached his adult size. Should he be adult sized by now?

Today’s is Sunny’s first birthday!! He got neutered toward the end of February. We live in eastern KY and he was born on a working farm.  I was told that his mom is a holland lop, but they were unsure as to which rabbit would have been the “dad” lol.  I weighed him this morning. He weighs 9 pounds! I believe the last time he was weighed, which was a little bit before his neuter, he weighed about 4.5 pounds. His ears do not lop over. He is constantly shedding lol..He is pretty high-strung I guess, not very mellow at all.

In this video, you can see a glimpse of his mommy at about :10, and then again at :45 seconds.

Here are some pics from lastnight and today.

Do you need better picture to help? I know that no one will ever know for sure what he is moxed with, but a few ideas would help!

Really hard to know – he could be a mix of a mix of a mix if he was born on a working farm. He’s beautiful no matter what breed he may be.

ha. Yeah, I thought about that too! a mix of a mix! I’ve tried to get my husband to ask them about what male rabbits they have that could have “possibly” fathered that litter. I don’t know why I could never get a straight answer. It may be because they are all “mixes of a mix”!lol

Do you think his mommy looks like a holland lop?

Happy Birthday Sunny!!!!! That vid is so cute. How precious to have footage of him that young!

                Is he really 9lbs?! Wow

You know his mum doesn’t really look like a holland lop to me. I think maybe she’s even half lop herself…her ears look like they never decided. I can definitely see lop
shape in Sunny though. I guess you’d really have to find out what bucks they had at the place at the time to get a better idea of his mix. His colour from earlier pics
resembles Palomino and that breed does reach about 9lbs I think. Though he doesn’t exactly look palomino colour wise in these latest pictures. He is a mix however. So yeah… that’s
                helpful! lol

I’ll prob just call him a lop mix then!

ETA: Yep, he’s really 9 pounds! I held him and weighed myself, then I put him down and weighed myself and subtracted…He’s a heavy buns!

About the early video…I wasn’t even planning on getting a rabbit. Had no thoughts of it whatsoever. We went over there for a different reason, and the kids asked me if I wanted to see some baby rabbits. So of course I said sure! Well, I just fell in LOVE with Sunny!! He had the smallest ears out of the bunch. They told me if I wanted one that I could have first pick. Well, I thought on it for like half the evening and we decided SURE! WHy not?! So I went over there with my camera like the next day and filmed that!

He looks like a “dusty” colored Palomino to me. I’m pretty sure he has at least some Palomino in him. But as was said above he could be a mix of a mix of a mix… Regardless, he’s super handsome!

This is Penny. My lady Palomino.

I agree with him having the look of a palomino!

Ripley, Sunny looks fluffy like Penny, too!

He doesn’t look like a lop to me at all. His ears are up in both photos. He looks like he could be part Red New Zealand to me, and the 9 pounds would be right for a NZ. He’s a very handsome boy!

Very useful Joyfull! I’m bookmarking that site. “All Rabbits, All the Time!” Lol

With the lop features, I sort of see it in that picture of him lying stretched out. The hind end, shortish tail and hind legs remind me of my lop. Could be because
they’re both agouti colouring that i’m seeing that similarity though.

I agree, he just looks like a “standard” rabbit, not a lop, not a palomino.  If you look on Petfinder there are hundreds of rabbit ads with the breed marked as “American” or “Standard”.  For lack of a better word, they don’t know what it is.  The agouti coloring could come out in any breed, so you can’t base breed on coloring/markings (unless you’re dealing with something obvious like a dutch).  If the person who bred him was just breeding whatever he could get his hands on, he’s going to be a mix of a mix of a mix.

Just like with any other animal that frequently gets cross-breeded, they “are” whatever they look most like.  I think I used this example before:  if you have a 120 pound German shepared/Chihuahua mix, you’re going to say “This is my Sheperd mix.”  NOT… “This is my Chihuahua mix.”  LOL.

                                    Either way, he’s gorgeous!

I think if you have a 120 lb german shepard, you are feeding it waaaaaaay too much. LOL! (They average 70 – 80)

I was just making this statement for the purpose of comparison. I do not know the ideal weight range of German Shepards. If my intent wasn’t clear from this analogy, then I don’t know what to tell you.

I’ve watched some of the videos from that channel ^^ now and the ones on new zealand mixes are really interesting! The colour variations that can pop out when a REW
crosses with a non-REW. Worth checking out.

Meow1, did you see the other kits up close at the time?  I think I can see an agouti baby in the back of the huddle but not sure. Also possible black otter though almost looks like it could have white tipped hocks. That would indicate some dutch markings. Could be a bag load of different breeds in the mix.

Sunny looks like he’s an agouti pattern (pretty common) but I don’t know which agouti colour… need Elrohwen to take a look, she’s pretty good on colours.  He was more orange colour when younger wasn’t he?  Apparently (Elroh tells me) orange is agouti colouration anyway. Confusing huh!

I still think that Sunny is part lop.  Maybe 1/4 lop.    His mum just seems part lop to me though not Holland. I suppose she could be a holland mix. Any guess as to how big she was weight wise?

He looks like my Jack and Jack is 9lbs too so it would make sense. I’d definitely say he’s mixed with some Palomino. :]

I was finally told that Sunny’s dad is a mixture somehow of dutch and Flemish Giant, and the mom, as said before, a lop mix.

ETA: PS , there must have been an error when I tried to weigh him. He was just weighed at the vet last week, he is slightly over 5 pounds.
