I bought a green pepper today and was wondering if it is ok to give it to my rabbit?

Absolutely – any of the bell peppers are fine. Just take the seeds out like you do for yourself.

Side note for Sarita- I’ve always taken the seeds out and rinsed the pepper to make sure none are on there, but why are seeds bad? Are they just fattening? I’ve always wondered this!

You know, I’m not sure what the problem is with the seeds, I suppose they are bitter and can be a choking hazard, but I never eat them and always clean them out for myself (and would for my rabbits if I fed them bell peppers).

Lol! It IS a mystery. For whatever reason, seeds gross me out, especially bell pepper ones.

I heard its due to seeds not being very digestable and potentially causing blockage or digestive/excretory issues.

Seeds in general are very high protein and high fat, also shells can’t be digested so bad for tummies. My girl loves bell pepper slices though and my parrot enjoys the seeds.

My buns hate any kind of pepper. Just like their mom!

The problem with the seeds is that they’re bitter and not tasty. We generally eat seeds of hotter peppers, like jalapenos, because that’s where much of the “heat” is contained, but in bell peppers the seeds just provide a bitter flavor. I don’t worry about getting every last seed out – as long as most of them are gone it’s fine.

My bunnies hate peppers. I cook with them almost every week and I always try to share a little piece, but they turn their noses up at it.

Yeah, just like we eat the skin it’s fine for them – just core the peppers first before giving them. And wash well.

My bun loooooooves green bell pepper……he makes little happy squeaks (usually reserved for sweet treats) as he eats them!
