as of now I give rornikka lettuce, bok choy, and parsley. they hate spinach and mint. I found a quinoa recipe that calls for parsley [which I know is okay], fresh basil, and fresh thyme. I was wondering if your buns eat basil and thyme [is thyme actually okay for them?] and what other veggies they like, as I’d like to start switching it up and making them little salads

Haven’t found a veggie / fruit my buns don’t like yet… or herb. Or grass. Only thing they are picky about is hay. But my buns are little pigs about food.

My bunny loves fresh basil from the garden (: My bun is still a baby so she’s only had parsley, basil, dandelion greens/flowers but she loves them all so far. My previous rabbit loved raspberry leaves, radish tops, and collard greens. Thyme is okay for bunnies.

Chacha really loves her romaines. If I pile it underneath everything else, she’ll go for the romaine first! She gets cilantro and italian parsley. I have 7 pots of wheat grass growing for her at the moment.

One of my assistant managers has a garden and she joked that a rabbit came by to eat some of her butter lettuce! I jokingly said “you should bring some for my rabbit!” and SHE DID! lol! I got an entire bag full today OMG!

Oh man.. The boys are all about their salads. They get a mix of romaine, spinach, red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce, green peppers, red peppers (their favorite), carrots, broccoli, parsley, basil, wheat grass and occasionally radish tops but they tend not to go for them. For fruit, they get banana, watermelon, raspberries, and/or strawberries. They get super tiny amounts of those, especially the watermelon. They do appreciate the variety hehe.

                  “rornikka” haha!

Jersey loooves brussel sprouts. She runs around like a dog with a bone when she get her 1/2 brussel sprout. Rumball is pretty into them too but he really likes parsley and carrot tops & carrots.

Timbu and Jelly also like the carrot tops. Jelly seems to enjoy parsley and Tim goes for the more bitter stuff like radicchio or rocket. Funny, because Jersey likes those too. I’m noticing too many similarities in those two!

What were you making with the quinoa? I’m liking quinoa. I only tried it recently.

                    Tate,
Do your buns have issues with broccoli? Tillie and Toby love broccoli, but I have been told to only give it once a week, at best, because it can cause gas and they have no way to release it.

My buns love cilantro (their favorite), red leaf, romaine, parsley, carrots, broccoli, sugar snap peas and wheat grass. The rescue gave me some butter lettuce and while Toby will some what eat it, Tillie snubs her nose at it. I have tried green pepper and they want nothing to do with it.

So far, they haven’t had any issues with broccoli, although I know that the crowns have been known to cause gas. They probably get more than they should… probably every other day or so. Broccoli stems and leaves should be totally fine and safe for them though on a regular basis. It works well for us because I only like the crowns and they particularly like the stems.

Penelope is SUPER picky! So far the only things I can get her to eat are endive, dill, carrot tops, carrots, romaine, and an occasional blue berry. I do try and get something new for her to try every time I go to the store or a farmer’s market. Her favorite thing in the whole entire universe are rice cakes. The only time she gets those though is after I vacuum or after I clean out her cage, because I know they can’t be good for her

I have not noticed T & T having any issues with broccoli either and they love the crowns! I was giving it to them every 2 days or so, but have cut back a little.

Rosy LOVES carrots. I have to be careful because I know she’s not supposed to have too much (high in calcium, I think), but you should see her little carrot dance and THEN try to resist .  She’ll TRY just about anything, but for sure doesn’t like mint, parsley, or green pepper. I’m gonna have to try brussel sprouts now, thanks Jersey.

Kevin is just the opposite, he doesn’t like anything except plain romaine and bananas (I’m thinking he was spoiled with bananas before).

Oh, and I’ve heard the same thing about broccoli causing gas so I haven’t tried it yet. I’ll try the stems.  Good thread guys, thanks!

Go slow with the brussel sprouts because, like broccoli, too much can make them gassy. Jersey and Rumball seem to cope well with them though.

I’ve been buying a box of Mixed Springs all three of my buns love. It’s easy since its pre-washed and it lasts about 4-5 days. I also give them cilantro, italian parsley and dandelion greens. Coconut also loves dill.

He loves his romaine lettuce, Italian parsley, and cilantro. He also get a limited amount of carrot tops and a few small carrot slices every day.

you know what’s funny, I gave rornikka carrot tops once and they totally snubbed it. they love carrots, but not the tops hahaha.

@jerseygirl I just made it as a side dish. I cook it with onions, garlic, lemon juice, chicken stock, and some random seasoning. I tried it in Peru last year and finally went to the market to make my own!

Momo loves romaine, chicory, cilantro, carrot tops (but not the carrot itself), and green peppers. She eats a much larger variety than that, but those are her absolute favorites.

Also, I have never had a problem with giving her broccoli. I would just give her small amounts mixed in with her normal variety during the week.

My 3 buns all love Dandelion leaves. They devour them like little piggies. Second would probably be Carrot Tops and third Parsley.

Dexter prefers romaine over the other lettuces but for the most part he’ll eat whatever I give him. His favorites include cilantro, parsley, green bell pepper, carrot top/root, dill, broccoli. On occasion, spinach, snow peas, dandelion, bok choy, cabbage or basically a little of whatever is in the fridge. We like to share our veggies around here! He prefers store bought veggies and often snubs the lettuces, bean plant, basil, mint, marigold that I grow on my balcony specifically for him!

Coincidentally, I made quinoa last night – I used miso paste to give it some flavor and included chopped scallions, carrots, green pepper, tomato and topped the whole thing with steamed broccoli. Since I don’t eat a lot of meat, I also made a dish of sauteed spinach, mushroom, onions and called that dinner…..yum!

Chessie (& JJ) love italian parsley.

JJ was a picky eater in general (she’d chew nice holes in my pjs).

In addition to parsley, Chessie loves dandelion leaves, green lettuce, carrot tops … oh, and the only fruit she’ll eat right now is raisins.

What does Arthur NOT like is the question? And with a clumsy kid and a not so graceful boyfriend he gets a taste of way too much. The stuff he likes that he is allowed to have: Carrots, Romaine lettuce, green leaf lettuce, parsley, cilantro, the occasional blueberry, banana, apple, pineapple, craisin, grape, orange, strawberry, and peach-depending on what I buy and what’s in season (I know these aren’t veggies but I noticed people putting in fruits.)

What is is not allowed to eat but drop and it have fun taking it away from him: Cucumber, had to chase him and he hid under the couch, he ended up eating half a slice. Tomato, daughter dropped half a wedge, didn’t realize he had it till it was almost gone (she didn’t take it away and I was in the other room. She yelled, “mom, arthur like’s uncle dan’s garden tomatoes.” I freaked.) Oh and salsa too. I dropped a big glob on the floor and didn’t notice him around the corner of the couch watching. Went to get a napkin to wipe it up, there he was. UGH! Then I sat down for more and he jumped on the couch then my lap begging for more. He is such a GLUTTON!

Monty loves basil best of all. Second favourite is carrot tops. He also likes watercress, coriander, spinach, romaine, dandelion, marigold, broccoli, pak choi, and parsley. He has tried mint a few times but only wanted a little taste.
Bea loves marigold leaves and fresh grass best, probably because she has always had access to a garden whereas Monty was brought up a city bun in a flat. But she will eat pretty much anything Monty likes too.

Heff LOVES clover sprouts and also enjoys sweet basil from our basil plant or the farmers market (won’t touch the stuff from the store), Italian parsley, spring mix (I buy the box as well but I always run it under water for extra hydration for the bunnies), a little spinach and arugula om occasion (not his favorite, but he’ll eat it if its there) and recently fell in love with dandelion greens. He doesn’t eat carrots and it makes me laugh because my husband is fond of saying that the only thing lower on the food chain than a rabbit is a carrot (this is always in response to me asking to adopt a dog or a cat. He’s convinced they will see the buns as chewtoys.)

As for August, I haven’t found anything she won’t eat yet, but we’ve only had her for two weeks. And she does like carrots!
