Hi there my rabbit is disabled and I was wondering since my rabbit is disabled if it would be better for him to use a water bottle? He currently uses a water bowl.

Switching to a water bottle could risk your bunny not drinking as much. I noticed my rabbit was barely drinking when she had a water bottle and I switched to a bowl, noticed her drinking more right away. A water bottle might be harder for your bunny to use. What are your concerns with your rabbit continuing to use the bowl? The common “problem” with bowls is they can be knocked over or bunny’s ears can get in them.

I would try to keep his area as usual as possible – is he still able to sit up? How exactly is he disabled – his hind legs?

Is he having trouble with his bowl? If you think a bottle might be easier you could add a bottle with the bowl, but not remove the bowl so his area is still there and he can pick what he prefers. Water bottles are typically more of a pain for bunnies, since they drink a lot in one sitting, but you know your bun best.

Now, I’m thinking, why not just offer both to see what he prefers. That may help answer your question.

He doesn’t have really any problem with the bowl. The only thing is when I went away for 2 days and came back he had no water and right around the water bowl was wet. He sometimes falls over into his water bowl which causes him to become wet. I ddi use a water bottle when i first got him and he wasn’t drinking alot that is why i switched to a water bowl. thanks for the help

Something else you might check into are those gravity waterers. This would help to make sure he always had water. The bottles are usually harder for them to drink out of, and if he has an issue with balance, I think that could make things worse.
