I groom my lionhead bunny everyday with a slicker brush http://www.petsathome.com/shop/soft-pin-slicker-brush-by-options-15828 but no matter how much I groom her she still has loads of matts and knots in her fur, especially when she grooms herself (which she does right after I groom her and she grooms alot) when I first got her she only had a few matts, so I cut them off carefully with nail scissors, but now its getting out of control, she always looks so messy and uncared for (when she is) also she really doesn`t like me grooming her and lately has starting nipping me and running away. Any suggestions?

I have 2 Lionheads. The best way to get out any loose fur and matts is with your fingers. Unfortunately for me, it takes someone holding Tillie while I do this. If she has a matt I just sort of start to seperate it with my fingers and work it down to her skin seperating as I go, never pulling. Then I will ‘groom’ her with my fingers, gently pulling her fur. What ever is molting will just come out easily. Works so much better than any brush I have used.

My previous bunny, Ellesbietka was presumed to be some sort of Angora or Lionhead cross; she came to me severely matted! I shaved her “poofy” and matted areas nearly down to the skin to give her comfort (she was filthy)- once it started growing back I kept it well trimmed down and she never had a problem with mats again.

But if you want to keep your bunny’s fur, I’d recommend a wide toothed comb with a dab of water. Works beautifully!
