Hey guys, I’m thinking of using wood stove pellets for litter, but they all come in 40 lb bags. Where do you keep your litter? lol

I use a plastic bins. I use Yesterdays News, but I normally have to special order it from the local Pet Express as they don’t carry that much of it, and so I will get two or three large bags at a time. I just dump it all in a couple of plastic bins. The bins also make it easier for me to scoop it.

I use a plastic sterilite bin with the snap-on lid. I can fit about half a bag in one, the rest of the bags are stowed away. I also have an old cup in there that I use for scooping. For me, it’s too hard to try and lift the WSP bag and pour a limited amount into the box, altho that could work too. I like being able to scoop and measure so I know I’m not using too much.

I just open up a bag and keep it in the garage – I don’t bother pouring it into anything else. It’s heavy so it stands up pretty well on its own. I use a plastic scoop that I found at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I have done both ( keep it in a bag and put it in a bin. And so far I like the bin. I keep a big bin in the garage that holds 40lbs of litter and use an old yogart container to scoop it.

How long do you think a 40 lb bag would last for a 4.5 lb rabbit? lol

I keep it in the bag.

It depends on your rabbit and how often you change the box. I change mine daily for both my buns – four litter boxes total (2 large cat pans, 1 plastic cage bottom, 1 corner box). I have a 30lb bag of yesterday’s news I got 3 weeks ago and I still have half the bag left.

My pair share two large cat boxes, they get changed 2-3 times a week and I go thru about 7-8 bags of litter per year. They are a combined weight of about 9 pounds

I just keep it in the bag in my garage. It’s too heavy to pour out in a bin for me and it works absolutely fine this way.

I, too, keep my pellets in a large plastic bin. I got a dog food scoop from Wal Mart for about a $1. I keep the bin by the buns cage and just scoop out what I need into the clean litter boxes. 40lbs lasts me about 3-5 weeks for 2 buns.
