Hi there my rabbit had fur mites probably 2 months ago. He went through treatment and I thought they were gone. They came back about 1 month ago and he is going through treatment again. He also has cancer to and is getting treated for that with metacam twice a day. When my rabbit was rediagnosed I clean his whole area. I used vinegar and water to clean his whole entire cage. Since he has the cancer he falls over so on the bottom of his cage I put a sherpa rug. Then I put a towel over that which I change about everyday. In his litter box I put a towel then a sherpa mat over top of that I do change that everyday since day. I don’t wash the sherpa mat in the washer everyday. I spray it with vinegar and water and wash it in the sink with hot hot water then I hang it out to dry. I am wondering if there is anything else I can do to make sure these fur mites never come back?

Sometimes rabbits with a low immunity system are just more suspetible to mites and cleaning isn’t really the problem, it’s just low immunity which is most likely why he is becoming a victim to mites. I would just ask the vet about keeping some Revolution on hand for him for treatment.

So you are basically saying to keep some revolution at my house to give my bunny when I suspect he has the fur mites or should he just be treated once a month wtih revolution like a dog is treated once a month for fleas? thanks so much

I would do it just as you suspect but NO MORE than once a month.
