The farmers here where finally able to bale some hay and I have been looking every where for just Timothy and can’t find it.  I can only find mixes that contain about 20-25% alfalfa.  Would this be ok or should I stay away from it all together?

        Thanks for your help!

So this is timothy/alfalfa mix or other grass hays/alfalfa mix?

Does Abby tolerate alfalfa okay? You mentioned she was a bit under weight so some alfafa might be a good thing.

It is timothy/orchard/alfalfa mix. She was on an alfalfa diet before she was surrendered so I would assume that she would be ok with it.

I don’t think it would be a problem, especially if she gets a very small amount of timmy pellets (which I think I remember she does).

She gets 3/4 cup which is the recommended amount for a bun 11-15 lbs. When we went down to 1/2 cup is when she lost all the weight. She also much more active now since she finished her Baytril and eye drops. I see binkies almost daily!

Should be okay, if its mostly the grass type hay

Some horses can’t tolerate rich alfalfa hay so you should be able to find horse quality grass hay. You could try the hay with alfalfa but just watch to make sure she is not picking out the alfalfa first and snubbing the grass hay.
