My bun took two different kinds of medicine like a trooper. Now, we are on a third and stronger one and he is not cooperating. He is usually very mellow and easy to pick up and has now started to fight and swat at me when he knows it’s medicine time. When I’m able to get the syringe in, he isn’t swallowing and it drips down his chin. I’ve been able to give administer for about a week but it’s now taking me 30mins-1hr to get it all in him. I give him treats after which he knows he’ll get but the meds are strong and makes him feel really bad so it doesn’t help. Any suggestions?

I like pinning the bun between my knees (while they’re still on the ground) and holding the shoulders down with one hand while sticking the syringe in with the other. It could be a problem if he really won’t swallow, but if you do it this way and do it fast enough it shouldn’t have time to think about it.

Have you tried mixing the medicine with a bit of fruit juice? We had to give Captain Danger a rather chalky tasting medicine daily-then-weekly over a course of 6 months, and I mixed each dose 1:1 with fruit juice before administering by syringe, and he thought he was the luckiest bun in the world I was careful to find a natural fruit juice that didn’t include preservatives and other additives. We had good success with strawberry-banana and with carrot juice.
