So in my last apartment I had wood (ok, ok laminate) floors so the bunnies never ever went near the door, there was too much lava in the way.  But now I have carpet pretty much all over so they are thrilled and go pretty much everywhere.  So here is my question, do your bunnies try to escape when you open the door?  If I’m leaving, they are locked up, but I’m worried about letting them out when I am planning on deliveries or if I run out to check the mail or any such thing.  Any one have bunnies who try to escape or are bunnies usually too scared of the great unknown undoors to try or have any desire to do so?  I think most likely if it’s a delivery they’d be too scared of the person at the door to try… but I’d hate to be wrong!

Sorry can’t help i have a cat door and Rufus just uses that to go in and out while I am home. On the front door I have an enclosed porch so even if he gets out there is not alot of places he can go. I would wait and see how they react, if they follow you then make some form of barrier.

When I’m in school and living in my dorm room, my bunnies run around my room. For months, we had no problems, and then one day Bailey got adventurous and started trying to escape. I have to open the door slowly and shoo her away when I’m trying to leave. She’s only made it out of my room once, and it was scarier for her than for me, I think. My two run away when other people are in my room, and they run away when someone knocks, so luckily I’m the only one who has to be extra cautious. Hopefully your two cuties decide they don’t need to explore what’s behind the door!

Well… you could always pen int he door Get one of the ones with the door in it, so you can open the door to…open the door. Close it so buns can’t escape when you need to get outside

Yep, I agree with MB’s idea. Make your self a little “Reception” area for the humans with a pen around the doorway inside the apartment. That’s what I’m planning to do in my bedroom because currently I have to race Timbu to attempt to get out the door. That boy is quick!

                  I like MB’s idea!

I’m no help because our front door opens onto the stairs, like a split level, and the bunnies have never gone near the stairs. I do open the sliding door while Hannah is sitting right there and she’s never attempted to go out (she runs right back in if I drag her out) so I doubt they’d be interested in escaping. If they were more comfortable with the outdoors it might be a different story.

My buns don’t try to go out the door at all, usually if the door opens they run and hide.. especially if someone comes in lol
