I’m not sure what is up with Leopold. He keeps sitting in his pee. I picked him up to comb him today and notice there was pee all over his hip. It was on the outside of his hip, above his tail. I lifted him up to examine his butt and everything down there is clean as a whistle. So I know he’s not having a pee problem. It just looks like he has been sitting in pee/poo already in the litter box. I’ll probably have to give him a butt bath so his hair isn’t all sticky anymore. This is so weird.

Is it possible that he peed a bit onto the side of his litter pan, so that when he leaned against it he got wet there? That’s what I’m picturing from your description.

Give him the butt bath, but gently. Only a wipe down with a damp washcloth may be necessary because he will clean himself, too.

Maybe your litter isn’t absorbing it well. I would change out the whole litter pan and put in fresh in case there was some sort of overflow, and see if it persists.

You don’t think he’s getting peed on by “somebody” else, do you? I just emptied their litter box prior to this, actually. I use Yesterday’s News, I thought it absorbed pretty well.

You’ll need to empty the box and evaluate if it’s saturated. I’m unsure because I’ve never had a wet bum from sitting in the box (ermm With my buns lol) but that doesn’t sound right.

I’d think one of two things
one-litter box needs changing badly (otherwise it would be absorbed-they shouldn’t get wet in a litter box that is clean enough)
two-bunny is not feeling well and not getting out of the litter box and maybe laying in it…or even that doesn’t sit right-perhaps not lifting to pee?

What are your observations after cleanign the litter box and watching your bun?

He has been acting normal. He flies out of the cage when I let him out in the morning and runs around like a maniac. He’s eating, drinking, pooping, etc. Nothing would indicate that he isn’t feeling well. Like I said, I just emptied the litter box last night. He had the pee on him this morning. It is puzzling because you would think that the litter would have absorbed the pee right away. This is why I suggested that perhaps he is being peed on. I have mentioned on the forum before that Leopold likes to sit in the litter box when Wooly obviously wants in it. I’ve been having problems with Wooly pooping on the floor next to the litter box because Leopold would not get out of the way and let Wooly get in. Perhaps Wooly forced himself in the litter box and with the limited room somehow peed on Leopold? That is the only thing that really makes sense right now.

Where was the pee exactly? I could imagine he’s peed on if it’s his rump…or side or head…but not his underside/private bits…If it is the private bits I’d think that’s him and watch very closely

If you read above, the pee spot is located on his hip. It’s on the outside, just above his tail. I looked underneath and everything is clean down there. So yes, it is plausible that he was peed on. I can just imagine Wooly hopping in the litter box and then trying to turn around and his rear ending up against Leopold. Maybe I should set up some night vision cameras! LOL

Monkey does that. Hop into the litterbox and pee when smudge is in it, that is. She hasn’t actually peed on smudge yet though…

That was my 1st thought judging from where you said the pee spot was. Either Wooly peed on him or is spraying despite being neutered. I’d guess its the 1st reason since Wooly is an angel and wouldn’t spray.

Try bigger litter box or 2 boxes perhaps?

Wooly is an angel, I doubt he would be spraying. LOL
This is the largest litter box that I could get that would fit in the cage. Technically a larger box would “fit” in there, but it has to fit through the door. Their other litter box is larger, it is outside the cage. I wonder if two of those smaller ones would fit side by side in there. I’ll have to measure it. I’m still waiting on the fabled new hutch for them. My husband started working on it again. He was attaching the ramp and wanted to put a couple screws in from the back side (so they wouldn’t come in contact with the buns). He ended up breaking off a couple of screws in the wood. Geez. Yes, he drilled pilot holes but he couldn’t use a very large drill bit because he was using an adapter in his impact driver. We are waiting on a new hand drill, his decided to poop out on him. Oh well.
