Hey, my new 7 week old bunny Frank is a bit listless the last two days.  He is eating his hay and pellets at a regular rate that he has been.  he is pooping.  When I got him home at first he had a bit of diarrhea but has since cleared up.  (attributed to change in lifestyle and diet).  I’m thinking he is just hot?  I don’t have AC in my house but leave him 2 frozen water bottles when I leave in the morning, then my roommate replaces them around noon when he wakes up.  I get home around four and let him out of his pen.  When I get him out he just kind of lays next to me with his rear legs spread out behind him.  No hopping or running around, but gets up at attention readily if there’s a loud noise or something, then just lays back down.  For a seven week old bunny I kind of expected more mischief.  He has a check up with a vet appointment in a little less than two weeks.

He’s still so young. I’m thinking the mischief will be in full-swing within the next month. It could be the heat that is affecting his behavior, or he could just be a calm boy. It’s good he’s going to the vet for a baseline exam. If his behavior gets worse or if he stops eating/pooping, call and arrange to take him in sooner.

You might also try letting him out closer to 5 or just after and see if he wakes up and starts demanding to be let out. A bunny can sleep very deeply in the late afternoon, especially a house bunny who knows they are safe, so you may be waking him up sooner than he’d like. My bunny will continue her nap until she’s good and ready, then let me know it’s supper time by standing next to her dishes and staring, followed by a surge of post-supper energy and demands to be let out. Is he active early in the morning?

When I brought baby Squirrel home, he spent a TON of his time sleeping. He’d be all hyper for a few minutes, then pass out for hours lol.

He has since become a master of mischief
