I’m going to Germany and have been researching for info on health certificate and airlines. So far, nothing much found. No one knows anything about health certificates. Not even the USDA! So far AirBerlin seems the best because they don’t say the carrier needs to stay under the seat throughout the flight. I read their website.

I want to be able to keep her on my lap (in carrier) and take her to the bathroom to check and make sure she’s dry, maybe feed her etc.

Has anyone done anything like this? I’m in Albany,NY USA.

I haven’t flown with rabbits but there are many members who have who will have some good advice. It’s very good your checking all of this out well before your trip and ensuring you can have your bunny in the cabin with you Welcome!

Apologies in advance if you’ve already been down this route.
This is the USDA info on import/export of pets. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/animals/animal_exports_pets.shtml
It also has link to veterinarian service so you can find an accredited vet to ask about health certificate. Your in luck because the (APHIS) head vet for your area is located in Albany!

They *should* be able to provide the correct information. Another avenue to try is the US embassy in Germany.

I have called the German embassy in NYC and they had no idea and referred me to their website which has nothing on rabbits of course.

I also called the local USDA office and they said they have no info on rabbits for Germany.

I’ll try to call again and also try different offices.

              Thanks to both of you

Thanks. Not much info there either. The EU document is difficult to read because it’s chopped up with amendments etc. and seems like some parts are missing probably due to these amendments.

                    Could they be considered livestock?

                      Definitely not in this case
They mention rabbits in the list of animals as pets allowed into the EU and I’d declare her as a pet

Thanks, Malp. I heard Munich is a nice city and most expensive in Germany. I’m going to Bonn, though. Can’t wait to leave!

I got some additional info from customs and added it to the other post. Hopefully this will be useful to someone else.
