It has been over a month since I started litter trainging my new bunny, Thumbelina. I have read so many forums on litter training tips and following them all, no luck!  She pees everywhere-does not have a corner she just goes where she pleases as well as poops. I have put a little ammonia in her litter, I have put a soiled piece of linen with her pee on it and placed it in the cage. Its hard to catch her in the act because she has such a fluffy but i can’t tell if she’s just sitting or peeing till after she moves. I will literally watch her poop, show her her poop, shoo her to her box, show her her poo again, then place it in the box. NOTHING. It has been 6 weeks and if you have more tips with stubborn bunnies do share ! Thanks !

How old is she? Is she spayed?

            Welcome. : )

Can you describe how you have her habitat set up? Thumbelina’s age and size, type of litter and box you’re using, whether you use cage bedding, position of her food, water and hay etc. These details help taking advantage of their natural tendencies.

I’d not be adding ammonia to the litter. 1) it can irritate the eyes and nasal passages. 2) it might actually deter her from going in the box. The pee soiled linen should be enough as they have a very keen sense of smell.

Try avoid shooing her also. Once the pee and poop has happened elsewhere, little can be acheived by shooing her. If it’s when she’s lifting her tail to pee, that’s different but avoid it here also if you think it’s frightening her too much. When you do see her go in her box of her own accord, make a big deal, praise her and even give a healthy treat.
