I was just thinking about this a minute ago. I was too busy when I went to the vet a few days ago to ask, but now I’m curious. What, exactly, is a normal body temperature for healthy rabbits? I’ve heard a variety of answers, but I’ve always thought that it’s 101 F to 103 F. When I was at the vet a few days ago, she was teling me that Ms. Rabbit’s temperature of 100.2 F was a sight fever. She was shocked when I told her that Ms. Rabbit’s temperature was 103.5 the day before. Does anyone know exactly what a healthy temperature should be?

According to Dana Krempel’s website it is a range of 101 to 103F.

Many times rabbits will run on the higher side of the norm when they are stressed a bit. (like if they are at a vets office.  My bunnies are always at the 103 range when they are at the vets, and this has never worried my rabbit-savvy vet.  IF the temp is low though, that is normally the worrisome part.

My understanding is the same as Sarita’s that 101- 103 is the norm and below 100 is not good at all…97 can be considered a sign that a bunny is in shock. I am surprised that your vet thought that 100 was a fever?? That is odd to me.

Here is the article I think that Sarita may have been referring to (by Dana Krempels) http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/sickbun.html

According to textbook of rabbit med, normal rectal temp range is : 103.3 – 104F (38.5-40C) 100.4F (38C) is subnormal, 105F (40.6C) is high.
Also mentions rectal temp of females slightly higher then males. Doesn’t specify if this is in intact females or not.

Temps of 101-102F aren’t really mentioned but it does say there are variations due to environment and seasons. I suppose some rabbits might be naturally more cool bodies then others i.e.around 101-102F. At 103.5, Ms Rabbit was in normal range. I agree, at 100.2F she was under normal.
