So I’ll start this off with a picture of thumper and roscoes new diggs:

(roscoe is on the left and thumper on the right)

If you didn’t know, Thumper was in a condo but for some reason I felt like turning it into a pen because roscoe is in one. and she loves it!! She binkys all over the blanket

FYI about the cheap looking grass mat in roscoes pen.. he doesn’t seem to like wood floors very much and he isn’t a chewer so I put down a beach mat thing and he likes it.. complete opposite of thumper LOL

I guess the nic cube pens aren’t as strong as an actual pen.. thumper (the little bugger) pushed her pen right up to roscoes and taunted him over to her and bit him HARD on the nose

I didn’t see it happen but he has a tiny little red dot scab looking thing on his nose so maybe she pulled out a wisker or something? bunny-gurus should I be worried?!

He doesn’t seem to care.. still eating like an olympian but I guess I just have to watch them a bit more!

Bites during bonding will happen. Keep an eye on it and make sure it heals. If it starts to look infected (very red, inflamed), then I’d have the vet look at it.

Please be careful with those open top pens. The xpen looks to be only 24 inches high, and two NIC grids are 28 inches high. Many rabbits can jump over those heights which is why we recommend the 36 inch xpens. You might want to cover the pens with a sheet or something to prevent them from jumping out.

            Okay thanks Beka

I think Roscoe has tried to jump but that pen isn’t mine any ways. When I get a proper one I’ll go for the larger size.

You also might want to put a box or something in between their pens to prevent a bunny from pushing it too close. Bailey bit Rucy’s lip almost off this way. Her lip was actually sewn back together. But just think how hard her life would have been without a bottom lip! –much harder to eat. So just be really careful about them being able to get to each other via the pen because they put their noses (and lips) right up to each other that way — which can be more dangerous than if they are together because normally they will circle or bite each other but not necessary in the face, fur can be somewhat protective of their body.

I was thinking the same thing, like setting a 2×4 that’s long (untreated, in case it gets nibbled on) between the cages so it can be pushed so far but no farther. Probably boxes would be better.

For some reason the tiny dot that was the cut seems to have gotten bigger. It’s still pretty small and its not on his nose directly, it’s beside it. I’m calling the rescue today to see what to do.

If you want to prevent the pens from being as “movable”- zip tie a NIC cube as a bottom corner piece on each corner- and put something heavy on it- like the litterbox and stone tiles for them to lay on. And then you can zip tie wooden dowels along the top straight portions to keep them from being pushed out. I have done this with Cotton’e pen otherwise it does not stay in place with all of her pushing and moving it around.

Thanks for the tip katnip! I have a tunnel in between them for now.

Here is a picture of roscoe and his wound is clearly visible next to his nose. (Sorry for the bad image quality, it’s off my phone. And please ignore how my hand looks :S)
