Good morning…I was wondering if any of you have bunny insurance? I’ve had my buns for less than 6 months and already have spent about $1000 (vet bills alone). Of course, a big part of that was for neutering and spay. I did get CareCredit, but unfortunetly my vet doesn’t accept it.

If you do have bunny insurance, please let me know the name of the carrier. Thank you!

I don’t have it, I’d rather save money into an emergency fund, but those who do tend to get VPI. I think it’s one of the only ones that will accept rabbits.

I don’t have one either – I think it’s overall cheaper to save money in an emergency fund if you can

The pet insurance places are usually great to have when young, as it usually covers a spay/neuter (not sure about buns though, but with dogs/cats they do). Since you’ve already fronted that bill… it would probably be cheaper to go with a savings account or charge-card you just put money into every week/two weeks when you get paid as a vet fund. That way if nothing happens, you still have the money but if something does, you have the savings to use. But yeah, VPI is the one I most commonly see used.

I have VPI for both of my rabbits. It’s $11 a month for each other. I think it’s safer to have insurance because if I were to put $11 a month into a vet fund, I would save up $132 a year… that’s not even enough to cover a basic check up with blood work. But when I pay for the insurance, I could get I think up to like 90% of the costs back. So if my rabbit had a $2000 surgery that was covered, I’d get $1800 back… So, basically $132 would cover a $2000 surgery.

I like VPI too, and it never covers a basic speuter so you didn’t miss out with that. However, they may have limits for pre-existing conditions. Check out their website and email them if they don’t make it clear. I would advocate them – my peace of mind in tight times is worth the monthly $12.

Instead of getting insurance, I got Pet Assure, cuz it was cheaper than any other quote I got. It’s $7.95 a month and it totally paid for itself already. I get 25% off any bill at the vet. I had also spent a crazy amount right when I got my bunnies, and I realized I won’t be able to afford these vet bills! Pet Assure has really helped me. It’s worth checking out.
