So how do you fellow rex/mini rex owners groom them?

I was using a curry comb (brush? it’s the soft one that electrostacilly attracts the hair… can’t think of what it’s called) and Banner hates it.  I mean attacking it so hard that he bit through my finger!!!!  He’s shedding and the damp hands approach isn’t working.

Would greatly appreciate any tips on how not to be attacked while grooming.

Also, does anyone else’s have like a bald line – that’s a weird way to put it – but Banner has this line that goes across his backside that is a clear deliniation of the hair on top and on bottom.  It seems like it’s a line where the hair isn’t growing or something (yes, I know, pics)  I don’t know if this is related to his baldness as a baby (his neck is still bald) or if I’m doing something wrong or he’s just built that way.

Sorry, stil teary from the bite.

Sometimes, one of those lint rollers with the sticky paper you replace now and then works like a charm. Usually for good big sheds

I use lint rollers exclusively for our Rexes, especially during the BIG sheds. They’re faster than brushing and get up the most hair, so you’re finished more quickly, which makes everyone happy.

            I’m sorry you got attacked!

Totally – I didn’t know a mini rex could HAVE that much fur. I think I need to make them less sticky next time though because it looks like I was a bit overzealous in one spot. Eep! Unless it was always that way but just covered by so much other fur lol

Yep, you have to be careful regarding the stickiness, but just keep it more on the surface fur and not push down, so the loose hair that’s ready to go comes up but you don’t pull any out that wasn’t ready yet. Glad that helped.

Re the line: that’s normal. It will disappear when the new growth comes in.

The best brush I’ve ever used for my mini rex is the Hairbuster comb. It actually REMOVES loose fur! Everything else will take up a few strands here and there, but the Hairbuster does a thorough job! I was always getting a small pile of fur with my lop, but only a small bit with my mini rex… now I get a little pile with her too…

For Lolli, I pluck when she first starts shedding. I use the hairbuster comb and a lint roller when she’s really into her shedding. For some reason, it won’t pick up a lot of her fur when she first starts shedding. It’s probably a user problem. LOL

And she gets the line too.

You can also try wetting your hands and then petting Banner. Then to get the fur off your hands, rub them together and the fur should ball up. (I do this to get the fur off my clothes too).
