My bunny is a few months old and when we got her she had to have a surgery in her leg because a mongoose had bitten her. After the surgery everything seemed fin and she started running and walking and even jumping sometimes…a few days ago i had to leave her at a hospital for boarding because i was going out of twon when i  got her back i got so scared because its like she cant walk anymore and she keeps on falling down even when she does walk its not straight and her front body is straight but from the back its all tilted and now even her front paws have started slipping on the ground and she can hardly walk anymore and she keeps falling everywhere although shes eating normally…What should i do(apart from taking her to the vet)?

You can’t do anything apart from taking her to the vet. It is a legal requirement in most countries that you provide vet care, and do not keep an animal in suffering. So you may actually be legally bound to take her to the vet, aside from ethically and morally bound. Remember you made the decision to get an animal and you must properly care for them.

You will not be able to treat her with any online advice and will have to see a vet-please keep us posted. And welcome!

A vet visit is definitely in order. if she’s all wonky, she needs to be seen.

I took her to the vet and she said that shes somehow injured herself into paralysing her hind area and they dont know if shell walk again but they’re saying that the fact that shes still eating is good and could indicate a possible recovery…fingers crossed!

If I’m understanding you correctly, she had the surgery, then stayed at that vet’s hospital for boarding, and when you got her back she was much worse. If the hospital she boarded at was the same one that did the surgery, they may have had something go wrong that caused her to be worse (that they aren’t admitting). If that’s the case, or if you just want some other option, I would take her right away for a second opinion at another rabbit savvy vet near you. If they were not responsible, the second vet can tell you if it’s unrelated to the surgery.

And a second vet may have a better prognosis for her recovery and give you more options if there are any. This is very serious and needs a vet’s attention immediately, but you could opt for another vet so you have more opinions to work with. You can find rabbit specialists in the yellow pages under Exotic Vets, so just call first to ask if they handle rabbits before you go to find one that is good with them. Don’t delay.

Is your rabbit inside now? I would definitely keep her inside now and watch her closely.

I dont really know how to say this but she died today…she started breathing very badly and panting she was fidgeting and squirming and trying so hard to breathe it was unbearable so today we took her to the vet again who said that her leg had been bitten by a mongoose(it was already bitten when we got her) and the infection had spread and was choking her lungs…we were too late and the vet said she was in pain and the best we could do for her was to end her torture…it was all i could do i am so sorry….

I’m so sorry for the ordeal you and your bunny have had to go through. I know that must have just been horrible. she had you to love her and to make sure her suffering would end. She is free now.

                                      Hugs to you.
