I have herd that when rabbits lay down and stretch their hind legs out behind them, It could mean that their stomach hurts and their trying to digest their food. Right? Well, Lulu just did that and I saw this weird thing happen. It looked like a ball was rolling around in a circle in her stomach! I caught it on camera but I am not sure if you will be able to see it.

It only happens once in the video. (sorry about me yelling. Mocha was grunting and trying to hump Lulu :p)

Any thoughts of what could have been happening?

I see that sometimes. I think I might have even posted a video once. I’m pretty sure it’s just their cecum moving and nothing to worry about. Their stomachs are small but the cecum is huge.

Hmm. Wonder why… I think what I was seeing was food being push through her digestive system. I wonder why I haven’t seen that before.

Didn’t see your post Jersey. Thanks! It was really odd and scared me a little.

I did post a video but it wasn’t one of mine.  Here it is. Watch in the middle because it’s easy to get distracted by how fast the rabbit is breathing.

thanks jersey! Lulu’s was a little more noticeable than that, but it might have been because he/she was breathing so hard. Lulu was breathing very fast when this happened to because our house is so hot!

Totally normal. It’s just their digestive system at work. I discovered that a few years ago when one of my bunnies was fully stretched out and I saw exactly the same thing. Nothing else concerned me as my bunnies were acting normally, so I just asked my vet about it and she confirmed it was normal. It’s actually pretty cool to watch and I notice it more some time after a larger meal. You just have to sit still and hang out and take our time and I bet pretty much everyone could spot this in their bunny. Some are a little more subtle then others.

I first saw this when Eva got spayed and her tummy was shaved. She often lies on her back so I could see it very well. At first I freaked but then realized that this movement has very regular intervals and that they are like little flipper machines nothing to worry about
Eva also stretches her hind legs completely outward very often – that’s just the way she likes to relax. She wedges herself between the wall and carpet and she has only about 5 cm of width to fit in there so if she want’s to be level she needs to be “thin as a needle” and stretch

Bindi lays like that all the time just to relax in the living room. I call it the “Bear Rug”. I’ve never seen those stomach movements though, probably because he’s so furry.
