Good morning! Just want to know how long did YOU keep your buns locked in the cage after the neuter or spay? Friday was when my buns had their surgery. This morning I let Sugar (boy) out for about 10 minutes.  He was so happy!  I’m sure I will keep Pepper in for at least a week…she is going a little nutty though (biting on the bars)!

A couple of days. We checked her stitches every morning, and you will see when they start to heal some. Once it looked like they were healing up nicely, she was let out for short periods of time. We just had to stop her from doing her usual climbing and other wild woman stuff.

I would definitely give Pepper extra time confined, they think they feel better than they actually are if on a lot of meds… However, I think you could let her out (if you have an xpen of sorts?) and remove anything that she could climb on/jump off, etc. I remember when Oreo was spayed she was so down and out for a few days she didn’t really over-exert much anyway…saddest little thing for those few days! I think I let her in her pen early on and she just layed out for the most part. I hope they’re doing well!

I let mine out fairly soon, just as long as she didn’t jump up or climb on anything, and when I checked the site it still looked healthy, ie. not red, swollen or oozing. If you’re bunnies don’t pick at the site and are not having a lot of medication, then a few days after is enough confinement. Just watch for the above. In fact, some regular floor exercise can keep them from going stir crazy and poking at the wound.
